What would it take for the Cubs to land B-Rob this year?

If you think Fontenot can be a cheaper/younger/more years of control "poor man's" Roberts, much the same way Scott is kind of a poor man's Tejada, then the rest of the deal looks pretty similar to the rest of the Astros deal -- a bunch of guys with questionmarks that could boom or bust.

Similar to a deal they got for an older, already markedly declining player who they desperately wanted to unload because he was embroiled in clubhouse controversy, which honestly has turned out to be a wash for us at best. Plus, Fontenot, great year this year aside, has not exactly provided value similar to Scott over the course of his career. If the O's actually have any confidence that their rebuilding plans are going anywhere, they'll hold onto Roberts and try to re-sign him later rather than trade him for a package of quantity rather than quality.

Hey if the O's aren't interested in a Tejada-sized package for Roberts, that's cool.

But IMO that's what'll be out there, from the Cubs or anyone else.

I've said all along that the O's should've traded Roberts last offseason, when his value was highest. They'd have to take less for him now, and that won't sit well with either MacPhail or Angelos.

That implies now their best option is to extend him, IMO. Letting him walk for comp picks is a distant last on the list.

What's wrong with Hill, in your opinion?

Clearly there are some issues, there.

Hill's issues are between the ears, IMO. He seems to be obsessed with mechanics and when they're not just so, he gets all flustered, loses confidence, and his control completely vanishes.

He needs to figure out how to clear his head and just go throw the #$%@ ball. In fact he cited a sports psychology type of book for the big strides he made in 06 and 07. Not sure if he returned that one to the library or what, but he needs to give it another read.

This is more than likely true, shoulda pulled the trigger last season. I just think Angelos was probably in McPhails ear telling him that if he trades a fan favorite that he better get a kings ransom. They should just extend Roberts and stop all of the talk if they aren't getting the offers they want.
