I imagine it's more about managing expectations on behalf of the team. Last year after "liftoff" he was consistently writing that the moves would be measured and it drove everyone insane.

I guess, but you might as well continue to not engage in the rumors at all, like he had been to date. It's not his job to set expectations. Just choose to only report confirmed stuff, that's fine. RTing this was actively petty IMO.

If ERod or Verlander get moved, does that drive the cost up or down on who's left?

I don't know him but I don't find him to be petty or malicious in how he comes across. I imagine he just thinks he's relaying the most accurate rumors given the way this front office operates, or he may have a source who's telling him it's a long shot at best and he doesn't want to directly relay that.

Verlander - I don’t see ownership spending that huge dollar price tag

Ed Rod - he’d be our game 1 starter, but I don’t see ownership signing off on the opt in option.

Flaherty and Lorenzen - are they really that much better than what Irvin/Zimmerman/Wells would give us in the last 10 starts of the season?

This I don't understand. It's a very reasonable option price and will only be exercised if he has an injury. This pretty much guarantees he'd be a rental only if he's effective, or he'd be hurt, so I get that that impacts the prospect package. But even if he gets hurt, that's the nature of any 3-year contract; you'd be relying on him to come back and give you the last two years of the deal.
