This is what I am thinking as well. What if Elias surprises us with a new out fielder he likes better than Hicks or McKenna?

This actually does make a difference for the Angels for luxury tax purposes and I heard it could impact their draft pick compensation as well. Something about how the QO could impact if Othani leaves. Could make the pick higher I think I heard.

If their former guys get picked up they can get a 2nd instead of a 4th.

You are correct. I read this I think at Fangraphs, being below the luxury threshold moves the qualifying pick from after the 4th round to after the Comp B round, 60-70 picks higher.
