MLB Offseason Moves/Rumor Thread

The Orioles acquired Cole Irvin on January 26 last year. That deal came out of nowhere, but hard to imagine a deal that hasn’t already been discussed now. Seems like the only teams with pitching we might want that could be willing to move it are Cease, Bieber and the Marlins’ various SP. Maybe if the Angels sign Snell they become willing to deal a SP for offense?

I’m guessing that last week of January is when the team is going to make any remaining notable moves and then focus will shift to Spring Training.

David Robertson has pitched in 18 different playoff series with 9 teams. 42 IP. He has 175 career saves too.

That’s a lot of experience to add to the back of our bullpen. It could also help to not run Cano into the ground. When he was fresh early on, he was electric and unhittable.

1yr 8 million?

If he was willing to do 1/8 he'd already be signed. What team wouldn't want a pen arm at that price coming of years with a 2.40 and 3.02 ERA? My guess is he's trying to get a 2nd year in the 2/24 range and teams are nervous because he'll be 39 around opening day.

Not that I believe the Os would sign Hader but wonder how he would feel about signing a big contract to not be a closer.

IE, we will still pay you closer money but you will be a high leverage reliever that we will use at any point in the game.

Do these guys want the money or the saves number or is it both?

On the one hand, the saves are just a way to eventually get the big contract. On the other hand, once you get the big contract, now you're playing for legacy. So.. it's both.

Right..so is legacy defined by saves or by dominance?  I think in the past, it’s been saves. Not sure that will be the case going forward.

I hope so. It feels like the game is really reluctant to shake off saves like they have with wins now. With someone like Kimbrel, I think it's clearly about the save number since he's chasing records and all that. I'm sure we had to tell him he's at least starting the year as THE closer to get him here.

I could see Hader and other guys not caring as much.

We have Kimbrel, Santa, McCann, Means, and O’Hearn, coming off the books next year. Probably Mullins and Hays as well. Maybe we keep one. Mateo and Urias as well. That’s a lot of salary.

We could give Montgomery 5/125ish and structure it to where he basically only gets the “Gibson” money this year.  Then throw in some deferals.  However, Montgomery is probably holding out for Texas because of no state income tax.

2024 - 12.5 million

2025 - 31.25 million

2026 - 31.25 million

2027 - 25 million

2028 - 25 million

Our team is going to be dirt cheap in 25-26.

I think it's both, but I'd have to lean towards money.  The saves help get that, so it goes hand in hand.

I'd love to have Hader, that'd make my offseason.

Did you find a genie in a bottle or something?

Good gravy, has every offseason been this boring and moving at a snails pace?  I'm sitting here clapping back at Reezy with Christina Aguilera videos, something I NEVER thought I'd have to do but man, the amount of boredom this offseason is suffocating.

You always struck me more as a Sk8er Boi kinda guy.
