What about Mayo?

Cowser. Although, he would probably be used in CF before Hays.
I think Hays, Mullins, Santander, Cowser are the four OF’s, with Mateo and O’Hearn available in case of emergency.

Cowser is not good at hitting left-handers, especially left-handed breaking balls. Not sure he's the guy you want handcuffing Mullins.

How about Stowers? He hits lefties well and plays a decent LF and has a cannon.

Stowers is hitting his way into the conversation because he doesn't have to play every day. Saying that, Stowers hasn't shown he can hit in a part-time role yet. Being a good 4th/5th outfield involves bringing that part-time hitting skill or really good defense. Stowers is adequate defensively though he does have a plus arm.

It's going to be interesting to see the roster decisions, but I think Stowers is heading back to start the year in AAA.

I think he could have a shot at matching McKenna's .638 OPS vs LHP from last year

Do you think that's going to change? I think he needs reps against LH pitching to turn that narrative around. He was drafted, at least partially, on the strength of his hit tool. If he can't hit LH breaking balls that's all he will see in the Show. I think he's going to have to figure that aspect of his game out or he might not realize is potential. That would be rather disappointing for a player taken at his draft spot.

I thought that is why they are trying Mateo out in CF.

But that is the thing, there are so many moving parts with this team and so many possibilities.  Is it McKenna vs Cowser? or is it McKenna vs Stowers?  Or is it Stowers vs Mateo?  The possibilities are many and honestly, the answers are probably not known even to Elias today.

Looking at two lineups today, it is clear that we have loads of talent.  Can we pitch...as usual, will still likely define where this team ends.  But it should be pretty darn solid on offense and defense.

Fair enough. But Tony's point was rationalizing McKenna's role on the team as a RH bat that can play CF and handle LHP. My point is, there aren't numbers to support that McKenna can do that.

Just like to point out, it's how I think the Orioles look at him, not the way I would. I have no issues DFAing him.

How did look at 1B?

I’m not sure, but would love to know. Wasn’t able to find a broadcast I could watch. Was just reporting back based on the live game summary and box score.

Seeing as it was split squads today, I hoped we’d see him in RF instead of 1B, if he wasn’t going to play 3rd, since they mentioned they wanted him to get time out there.

4-4 today with the Orioles' only extra base hit the whole game. Now batting .378 / .477 / .622 in spring. I swear to God, any other team in MLB would have already penciled him in the opening day lineup. But (if the OH pundits are correct) we'd rather have Urias take those ABs.

Was at the game today. Two of the hits were bloops, including the double, which he hustled into a double.  I missed the other two hits so can’t speak to them.

He had extra motivation today and both his mom and girlfriend were in attendance.

But still, agreed. I don’t see how you keep him off the roster.  If there’s not a trade, I think we will see some IL manipulation of some sort so both he and Holliday make the OD roster.

Edit: Other two hits were a ground ball single and a weak fly to center. Not any hard contact at all, but still 4 hits however you want to look at it.

I REALLY wants to see both Holliday and Mayo starting OD.  I think they both have earned it.  I'm more than ready to have both Mateo and Urias off of the roster/pure bench players, with Westburg getting the starts when Holliday/Mayo/Gunner need a rest.  But I think both start in AAA unfortunately.
