Could the Orioles be in on Jordan Montgomery after the season officially starts?

At what point does Rubenstein have full authority to increase Elias’ authority to commit funds?  The deal would have to close immediately after MLB approval for Montgomery to still be around i would think.

He might want to cut spending!

Because they offer him the most money? Isn’t that what most people would do when considering employers?

Quality of life matters a lot when you already have a good bit of money. I don’t have baseball player money, but I have enough that I would not move my family to NY. There are also tax implications that have to be factored in.
But yes, most people like to see the dollars on their paychecks. I have a friend who owns a big electrical company and he is constantly losing people to the dollars an hour over the provided company truck with no maintenance or fuel cost and additional benefits. If you did a cost/benefit analysis, they are ahead where they currently are but people aren’t always logical.

It’s highly likely that the NY tax situation is factored in by the agent in negotiations.

For the kind of money that he will be making, I am sure he can find a very nice and comfortable lifestyle in any market in MLB (NY or otherwise). Plus, he’s already familiar with that area from his previous time in that organization.

People who choose Boras as an agent want the most money possible, usually.

Although, I thought I remember reading something about him not liking playing in NY before, but I could be dreaming that up.

Link to Bowden the criminal saying Montgomery has 2 long term offers on the table and look out for the O’s which is probably just speculation on his part.

Boras may also be trying to create a fake market using the media.. not the 1st time he’s done so.

Bowden MLB radio

If I heard him correctly, the way he worded his statement was, there are 2 long term offers already out to him. But we should keep an eye out for the O’s as a potential sleeper.

Did anyone else interpret his words differently? I am much less excited about this after hearing what he said.

I didn’t give any thought to the Bowden speculative tweet. Tony indicating we’ve at least had contact has me a bit more interested. I’m still skeptical of course but the reasons for a deal all do add up. Would be great.

I find it interesting that he posted something inside a thread yesterday and then started a thread on the subject today.

Did he hear more chatter in between posts? Or did he just forget he made the post in yesterday's thread?

Verrrrrrrrrrrry interesting:

Burns is a Boras client, and we have a few young studs that are Boras's clients. I have a feeling there is a mutual respect between Elias and Boras and if the Orioles do well...... Boras likes to be king maker and what better way to stir the pot. Also, two years with opt out is minimal risk and allows for a good healing time for Bradish and Mean-like no rush - hence good investment. Color me dreaming, but............

    • I have two tickets to Game 1 of the WC which I cannot use due to work travel.  Section 352, row 4, seats 9 & 10.  Asking $70 total for the two.  Paid $205 to the Orioles as a season plan member.   PM me if interested.  Paypal preferred.
    • Can't make game 1. I'll be at game 2...last time I was at a playoff game at Camden, we beat Scherzer and the Tigers.
    • He should be taking fly balls all winter.
    • That was a lot of fun. Felt like there are certain elite seasons that had to be part of the team, and then tried to build from there.  Outfield depth is a little shaky, as is the rotation — though the latter is probably mostly unavoidable. The lineup would rake and the bullpen would shove, so pretty happy with this combination.   C 2022 Adley Rutschman (5.4 rWAR) 1B: 1998 Rafael Palmeiro (6.3) 2B: 2005 Brian Roberts (7.3) 3B: 2015 Manny Machado (7.5) SS: 2024 Gunnar Henderson (8.9) LF: 1999 Brady Anderson (5.9) CF: 2021 Cedric Mullins (5.9) RF: 2008 Nick Markakis (7.4) DH: 2013 Chris Davis (7.1) Bench: 2003 Melvin Mora (4.7) Bench: 2006 Miguel Tejada (4.5) Bench: 2011 Matt Wieters (5.2) Bench: 2001 Jeff Conine (2.9)   SP: 2000 Mike Mussina (5.7) SP: 2007 Erik Bedard (5.7) SP: 2019 John Means (4.4) SP: 2002 Rodrigo Lopez (3.7) SP: 2010 Jeremy Guthrie (4.5) RP: 2016 Zach Britton (4.1) RP: 2023 Felix Bautista (3.0) RP: 2004 B.J. • Gray started off well  but then ran out of steam a bit. He's not getting any younger. I was interested in him last year but I think the Cardinals overpaid and his contract only gets worse.
    • A bit. Nothing life changing, but the format seems…Cleaner.
