Not upset about but also not going to watch the commercial. Rubenstein seems to like the spotlight.

He does have a podcast or some regular tv spot, doesn’t he?    So, he’s not opposed to the spotlight.

I've put too much effort into this.

Boomers- Beatles

X- Star Wars

Millennials- Harry Potter

Not sure what it will be for Z.

Taylor Swift, God help us.

At least she supplanted Justin Bieber.

0.1% of the sale cost is still $1,725,000.    I doubt Demper has that kind of money lying around the house.

Might have to crowd fund him.  Homer hose night at the local bar.  But with beer instead of water.

I don't care, particularly, whose idea it was. People will cater to him like this and Rubenstein is going to use him like a promo tool because he thinks it will be effective at drawing back fans. Personally, I like my modern Orioles without the specter of Cal. It's fine if he's part owner, but between the #7 thing and this fakeout, coupled with the Brooks slander on national TV, the cheapness with the IronBirds... no thanks.

What Brooks slander?  I haven't heard/read about this.

He said, while broadcasting the O's-Yankees ALDS in 2012, that he thought Adrian Beltre was a better third baseman than Brooks Robinson. Not sure if it's correct but I never found it that slanderous.

Ah.  Hadn't seen that before.  Well, it's not slanderous in the least.  It comes off as blasphemy to some O's fans 😆, but Cal, like everyone, is entitled to his opinions.  I wonder if the comment was regarding defense alone?  He may be right.  Hard to know... as both were great.

I like the promo. It's amusing.

What's also amusing is how many people project/speculate their wishes and hopes onto something they don't even know what is. I saw the same thing happening in the Holliday thread when aome people were posting they actually believed he could get an extension getting called up.

Hate to tell those guys, but that's premature wishful thinking and it would be best to wait and gather more information about what reality looks like before jumping to conclusions.

The speculation before this promo was released is a good example of that.

I find it to be a fun, light hearted, and entertaining promo. I really like it.

This is a typical OH thread LOL..

I know Cal has had a bit of controversy around him over the years especially w/ the streak, his special travel arrangements toward the end of his career, and his divorce. But I generally have always liked the guy. He's not on the Brooks level, but I don't get the hate he's getting over the commercial.

Also, I have NO clue how what DR tweeted in anyway could have been perceived as giving GH an extension. Utter stupidity from 105.7.

I thought the commercial was pretty good especially to pull in the non-hard core fans.

I am going to wait till next off season and if DR hasn't started spending $$ by then on extensions then I'll start to be upset.

I agree 100%.

I also think Cal has spoiled Orioles fans with how available he has always made himself for autographs over his career and lifetime. He's always treated fans good.

Brooks might be the standard but Cal has carried on that tradition in his own regard. And he can be regarded as great.

    • Also I'll say this regarding this offense, and maybe it's just me... I feel like we've faced some really, really good pitching.  I don't have the time to research the teams we've faced and where they rank on the pitching spectrum, but I feel like we've seen some teams dealing really well against us.
    • Expectation is everything. If you dropped this exact team into 2021 the board would be saying this was their favorite team ever.
    • Fortunately, we now have xBA, which eliminates having to guess in babip is due to bad luck. His xBA is .199
    • I think it's one of those things where the sum is currently greater than the parts, and because of that it's hard to see how we continue winning at this pace given all the struggles in the lineup at the moment.  IF (and I realize it's a big if) but IF Urias, Cowser, Hays, Mullins, McCann, and Santander to an extent, heck and even Henderson lately,  don't start hitting better it's hard to see us continuing on that incredible 107 win pace.  That's quite a few holes, or semi-holes, in the lineup to overcome.  We can't count on a Westburg hit followed by an Adley homerun in the 9th every night to win games when the offense is comatose for 8 innings.  Now clearly if the starting pitching keeps performing the way they are then we will need to score fewer runs overall as we will be giving up fewer.  But I'm not sure that will happen.  Just as we are hoping some of the hitters get back to their career norms, it's also possible some of the pitchers revert back to more normal levels, and not the incredible pitchers they have been.  Combine that with all the injuries (Well, Grayson) and recovering injuries (Means, Bradish) I'd be a lot more comfortable if the offense was clicking on all, or at least more, cylinders.   I'm super jacked about the record, and the pace we are winning at.  I've been HUGELY enjoying watching Westburg become this budding star, seeing Adley hit so well, and have loved being wrong about my expectations for O'Hearn, Mountcastle and yes, even Mateo to this point.  But we DO have some real issues that need addressed, or else I'm afraid we are going to fade seriously in the next 3/4s of the season.
    • Just going by the eye test, I haven’t seen him get “unlucky” on hardly anything he’s put in play, let’s put it that way. He’s been horrid.
    • Yeah it’s basically a recap of the first month of the season that includes interviews with some of the TV/radio guys and a few players. Westburg featured prominently on that front, with a little McCann and Cowser mixed in as well. Also Grayson. Nothing groundbreaking but a worthwhile watch, especially on an off day.
    • I enjoyed it though I have to admit I don't remember much of the first one.  I just finished the second.  Lots of small little interviews and thoughts from different guys as they run down the season up until the 2nd game of the Yankees series.  See some behind the scenes stuff like Cowser and Jackson going behind the monster to sign it.  If you've got 40 minutes to kill, it's fun as a big O's fan.
