Would Scherzer(40 and David Robertson (39) be enough for the O's to win the World Series? If they are healthy and pitching well at the deadline. O's trade Norby, Beavers, Stowers, Nunez and Portes. Too much? Too little? What do you think? -

There's something I've never quite understood, but there are a number of pitchers from the 1970s who were reasonably successful despite terrible strikeout and walk numbers. Mike Torrez. Stanhouse. Jesse Jefferson. Mike LaCoss. Greg Minton. They didn't just walk as many as they K'd, they also didn't really K anybody, like 3-4 per nine. They weren't great, but somehow they got by. I think in that era there were enough terrible hitting middle infielders and big astroturf parks they could pitch around the real hitters, and try to not give up too many homers and usually made it work. But I have a feeling that today anybody trying that would get annihilated. -

I'm sure there's a group at Mariner's Hangout who just knows this team doesn't have it, the front office stinks, the players are under-performing, any day they'll be passed by the Astros, and it's time to rebuild for '27. Get what you can for whatever assets are there before it inevitably comes crashing down. See: some part of Orioles Hangout pretty much every year from '12-16. -
He had "shoulder fatigue" earlier this season. Maybe it's lingering. I wouldn't want him pitching through it for us at 11 million dollars or whatever they would have to pay from his 22 million this year, then hope he's the great Gausman from a couple of years ago from ages 34-36. -

His numbers in his prime weren’t exactly prime. WHIP of 1.5. More walks than strikeouts. It would be similar to giving Cionel Perez every save opportunity and rack up some saves. Stanhouse wasn’t very good but he had the job. -
Why is it stupid now? How can you even say that without knowing what it would cost to acquire him? He's having a great season, his peripheral numbers are strong. He would immediately upgrade the rotation. He's in the 95th percentile in Whiff %, K % and BB %. It'd be GM malpractice to flat out dismiss acquiring him for no reason other than he didn't impress in 34 IP last year. To just dismiss the idea altogether because he pitched poorly for us in a small sample size last year is incredibly short-sighted.
