The random gopherball per game by Burnes is vexing. I can just picture it in Yankee Stadium in October.

If he gives us a quality start like he has the past 8 starts, I'll take that in October in Yankee Stadium regardless of whether it has a "random gopherball".

It's the new thing around here. Adley hasn't caught Burnes in his last 4-5 starts so there MUST be some drama there.

I don’t think there is something but Roch made reference to it as if there could be. He also might have had tongue firmly planted in cheek.

That’s beside the point.  Even excellent players make physical mistakes.  It doesn’t mean they “weren’t focused” or have some character flaw.  That’s my point.  The way McKenna got personally attacked for that play, you’d think he’d say on the ground and let it drop.

McKenna was just everyone’s whipping boy around here.  It was Urias lately until the last week or so.

And you’re ignoring why McKenna got attacked for that play. Even though I agree with you that people were still bringing it up weeks later were annoying.

This happens to guys like Westy, but the notion that McKenna was a doofus was something that was applied to him before that play, it certainly hounded him after.

Westy doesn’t have that reputation and that helps him in that situation.

A reminder that Ben Wagner should be the full time play by play broadcaster.

Ah yes.  I so loved him talking about an event in “Anne…uh, uh, R-en-DALE” county and telling us all multiple, multiple times how wonderful the Blue Jays organization is and how well they treated him last week.

I hope we don't have to debate this a third time. 😀

but the stakes were far different...McKenna's drop cost us the game..Westburg's didnt...

McKenna’s drop didn’t cost us the game. The homer Bautista then allowed cost us the game. Just like Westy’s drop didn’t have to cost us runs tonight, until Burnes allowed it to.

They literally said on the broadcast that they asked Hyde about it today and he said no, it's just how it's been working out with the past few games and giving Adley rest. Now, everyone can speculate that Hyde is lying to the media, and that wouldn't be surprising. The conspiracy theories on the OH are legendary.

And the folks complaining about McKenna didn't want him on the team. There's no one who doesn't want Westburg on this team.

    • I just got power on in Savannah, I hope those we have not heard from are well.
    • I think the point about Gunnar being left handed does swing this in his favor, if it’s an Os specific question. No sense in having your main stud player hitting warning track lasers that would be HRs in 29 other ballparks, over and over again. We may find out exactly how frustrating that is when it comes to Mayo the next couple years  Hopefully we find out! As for the speed, Witt is of course faster. But Gunnar had 20+ stolen bases himself this year. Not like he’s slogging around out there. And Gunnar is a fantastic baserunner overall   I think the defense is closer than people think too. Easy to be biased negatively because Gunnar struggled for a bit there. But there’s a reason we were all so surprised by that - he’s been rock solid otherwise.    Lastly if we had Witt, we wouldn’t have Adley.  Which still matters despite his tough second half. That element (which I realize isn’t necessarily part of the question) makes it a complete no-brainer.
    • I'm sure they had to hold a certain number of decent seats back for MLB and corporate sponsors for the playoffs.
    • Maybe a groundball back to Cano.
    • They've upped the prices back to $77. They've also opened up a lot more sections for purchase. I found this very frustrating when I went to a game a few weeks ago. Many sections appeared sold out and then they added seats for purchase a couple of weeks before the game. Perhaps it has to do with season ticket holders deciding to not go to the game and then the tickets become available?
    • I reckon it’s because Bowman is a contact guy. I know his strikeout rate was 8 with the O’s, but historically he’s been more of a 7 SO/9, so Selby does bring more of the strikeout potential. Although, ideally, you don’t want either of those guys pitching in the playoffs. But hey, maybe Selby ends up being That Guy for us.
    • I know you know, but we gotta adjust from just to cover innings over 162 to playoff time. We won’t need more than Burnes, Eflin, Coloumbe, Cano, and Dominguez. Maybe one of Akin/Perez.
