Monday's crowd was the second smallest of the season. The attendance for Tuesday (12,841) and Wednesday (13,098) are in the bottom seven gates of the year. The list:

Seems like I heard on ESPN that Tuesday's gate was the smallest in all of MLB.

Maybe for that night, but not the season.

Yes, I understand... but we have a playoff race, KC doesn't, Seattle doesn't, a playoff bound team is in town going head to head with us for a spot... . and we have the lowest attendance in all of MLB for a game against them?

We beat KC's crowd tonight by 74 fans - take THAT KC! Cleveland beat us tonight by 1,314 but........umm.......O.K. I got nothing for that game ;)

Pittsburgh, also in a postseason chase drew 19,398 tonight, trouncing Baltimore, as did....

Cubs-Brewers match-up of also-rans in Wrigley - 33,271

Colorado is out of it, 25,155 tonight

Miami is enjoying a new stadium buzz and nothing else - 24,909

Arizona, a real long-shot to get to the postseason, drew 18,451

Stick a fork in San Diego, 16,845

ETA: Attendance is still above 2011, but the amount of increase is now 14.7%, which is a big change from the OP. (Can the mods change the thread title accordingly?)

My guess now is we'll pass 2011 on September 8, and finish just above 2 million, which is still the best in 5 years, but well below 2007 and before.

I think today's attendance might be the worst of the year. It will be below 10,000. It might be 8,500 or a little lower.. The O's might have a slightly higher figure. We shall see .

The Orioles have stated they are expecting 7000 fans today! I already have a 420 tee time or I'd think of taking a half day, buying an upper deck seat, and sitting behind the dugout! (and then probably being removed by the ushers!)

WOW how pathetic, wouldn't that be a new low record.

I am really shocked by the apathy on this particular homestand. I realize that school being back in session is a factor, but when you are drawing 10-13,000 against another competitor in a pennant race, when the team has been playing particularly well of late, that is flat out terrrible.

I can't say Angelos doesn't deserve it, but the team doesn't.

Why do you care so much? ;) Aren't most kids in school today? (Mine has the day off, but I bet a lot of schools don't)

My post was misleading. When I worked night shift, I used to go to ALL of these "business man specials." I'd sit out in the bleachers alone and enjoy the game. Now, I work days and it sucks! :laughlol:

Chicago is another competitor sure, but they are basically the Orioles of the midwest. The Toronto series drew well but I think we need to also consider this:

This is the last non-division opponent the Orioles will play at home this year. All September is nothing but AL East at home. SO I am a non-season ticket holder looking to buy tickets with limited resources and I look at the schedule and see, a three game series (because that fourth game is a complete non-starter for a majority of people) against the white sox OR

AL East all through September,

Cal Ripken Statue night

Brooks Robinson statue night

multiple games against the Yankees and Rays with playoff implications

More promotions

Significant baseball in Sept

combined with

The start of school, not just the first week but the first DAYS

traffic nonsense, real or perceived with the grand prix

And the nagging waiting for the other shoe to drop, for some

You get what you saw with this series. I am pretty dang certain after it is all said and done this series will be one big outlier.

This! But it just goes to show you what 14 years of losing baseball will do. It will create a MAJOR disconnect between your team and the city, which cannot just be overcome by ONE good year.

The comparisons are the '79 Oriole Magic and the '89 WhyNot teams. They came out of nowhere, similar to this 2012 team. I feel like fans connected to the '79 team because it became fun to go the ballpark and drink beers and people viewed the players as like them. It was a different time... you could carry beer in; seats were cheap; many of the guys worked out at the Johns Hopkins gym where my mom went. There was just a different connection. I'm not sure it's fun to go to Camden Yards, right now.

Then there was '89. That team was 4th in the AL in attendance, averaging 31,299. Wowsers.... behind, wait for it... Toronto and Oakland. Again though, the team connected to the city. THERE WAS NO PRO FOOTBALL. So, it was more about the city starving for a winner.

It's a long way back for the O's. Their season ticket base is abysmal. That is their biggest problem. They have also, justifiably or unjustifiably, alienated lots fans. The White Sox series was pathetic. I'm sorry to say. The amazing thing is that I hate going to Yankees and Red Sux games because of the opposing fans. I like going to see teams like the White Sox b/c I know won't be a minority fan in my own ballpark. Yet, the attendance was still atrocious. Too bad.

To be clear, I don't blame fans. We're scarred. It's a long road back....
