So who goes?

I don't necessarily "hate" the SEC... but this was ridiculous. The color guy kept saying, "This is how WE do it in the SEC". It seemed trite b/c in the top corner of the television was the "SEC on CBS" logo. It's akin to NBC trying to come up with some looney scenario where Notre Dame plays for the title.

I'm not saying Florida isn't deserving. I do think that their SOS is inflated a bit b/c of the perception of the SEC.... Michigan's SOS was #3 in the country and their loss is better than Florida's. The two best teams in the country should play for the title, period.

And can we please leave out this "Michigan already had their shot" garbage? If UM-OSU was week 4, this wouldn't even be an argument. SG - I like LSU as well, but JaMarcus Russell just makes too many mental errors for my blood. I've never really been a big believer in Leak and Urban Meyer's soapbox rants just annoy me.

Obviously there should be a playoff. Well, there's not. All you can do is don't lose bad games and hope for the best.

I have a feeling UM will get the nod, but either way it's hard to argue.

I agree that Michigan will get it, but Florida did play that ridiculous schedule and did win the toughest conference in the country. The funniest thing about CBS was that Gary Danielson went to Purdue, and I did hear him say "That's how we do it in the SEC".

Michigan had their chance against ohiio state.they blew it.i am a gator homer afterall but look at the schedule Florida played in the toughest confrence in all of colledge football in the SEC. playing auburn, georgia,UT,FSU,kentucky, vandy,LSU,bama, south carolina and arkansas florida by far had the toughest schedule in the land.Who did michigan beat?ohio state..oh...wait...

This reminds me of the "AL East is the best division in baseball" argument.

Perception does not always necessarily equal reality. Georgia sucks, Alabama is having a bad year and Tennessee..... I mean, how good is the SEC really? Florida is obviously very good and I think that LSU is legit as well. Outside of those two teams, I really don't know.

You lost on the road to a 2 loss Auburn team by what, 10 points was it? Michigan lost on the road by a field goal to what is the concensus #1 and has been all year.

I'd rather see a UF-UM game than another UM-OSU game, but the system is what it is.

Absolutly 100% NOT.

Neither team is more deserving of the bid. If I had to pick, I would obviously pick Florida because of their strength of shedule and their ability to hang on in close games against quality opponnents. Whoever goes is deserving, and whoever is #3 doesn't deserve to be there.

I really just have one word:

TOURNAMENT.

Both are 1 loss teams, but Michigan lost by three on the road to the number 1 team in the country. They are definitely more deserving than Florida. I don't really want a rematch because it's not fair for Ohio St to have to beat Michigan twice. And if Michigan wins it doesn't really prove anything, except the overwhelming need for a playoff. But Florida doesn't deserve just like USC didn't deserve it nor did Notre Dame.

I guess I'd rather see Michigan, because I think they're the better team and because I'm so tired of hearing Urban Meyer whine. Plus, quite frankly, I usually make it a policy to root against Florida teams.

On the other hand, if it's a UM-OSU rematch, I don't know if I can handle a full month of full-fledged ESPN overhype.

I'll throw up if it's Michigan. I just hate the Big Ten.

I think Florida deserves it. But I really think the NCAA needs to get off its *$% and put together an eight-team playoff or the like. Wouldn't that be awesome to follow:

1st round

Ohio State v. West Virginia

Michigan v. Wake Forest

Oklahoma v. Florida

Southern Cal v. LSU

Perhaps my entries are wrong, but you can't deny that tournament would be more infinitely interesting than all these goofy bowl games.

I'd hate to see OSU/UM again for a been there done that game but with what has transpired today that's the only reasonable matchup. And if UM beats OSU by a FG or less in Glendale nothing will really have been decided.

UF or Louisville certainly do not deserve to play in the BCS title game.

I don't get that point at all. Teams in other sports have rematch's for the title or to get to the title or pretty often. If the loser of the regular season matchup in the NFL or college b-ball wins the title game by a similar amount as they lost the first game, does that also decide nothing? And does home field advantage not mean anything?

BTW, I would say UM should play for the title.

They'd be the BCS Champion, no doubt. But for an AP voter having to choose whom the better team is? The decision would likely be for UM because they won their last game, not necessarily because they are the better team or more deserving.

One thing I found kind of interesting...

Urban Meyer campaigning:

"Florida belongs. The other team had a shot."

I find it fascinating for someone associated with the University of Florida to make that argument. While he wasn't the head ball coach at the time, it wasn't too long ago that the University of Florida won the national championship in a rematch. Does Urban Meyer think UFs National Championship is somehow tainted because they had already had their shot and didn't deserve to be playing for a title? I don't think the BCS was in place at the time, but if we apply Urban's reasoning, UF should not have been playing in that game since they already blew their shot against FSU.

The way the system is designed to work, and has worked in the past, Florida should get the bid. They had the loss earlier, and wins after Michigan's season was over. Plus the strength of schedule is higher.

If you want to know which team I think should actually get it, it's either Boise State (they ARE undefeated, so they should get their shot) or Michigan (easily better then anyone else).

If we had one, there would be no problem with a rematch, because the teams would have to beat other quality teams to get to that point. However, the way the system is set up, especially with the timing of Ohio State-Michigan, it would be an embarrassment to make that the game right now.

...and that's a shame.

But when has the BCS been concerned about embarrassing itself???

I'll say this : If UF goes and is competitive with OSU I will be pleasantly surprised. I'd just like to see a good football game.

I think Michigan is the better team and honestly I think that they would have a chance to beat OSU on a neutral field. Not sure I can say that about UF with any degree of confidence.

You are correct about how the system has worked in the past. However the goal of the BCS is to match up the two best teams in the country. Who are the two best teams in the country? I think most would agree it's Michigan and OSU. So if we get a rematch the BCS has met it's objective regardless of how the system has worked in the past.

Personally I hate rematches but this year I think the gap is pretty large between UF and UM which is why I'd hold my nose and pick UM/OSU for Glendale if I had a choice.

    • 27,299 for today’s matinee, so 96,612 for the four game set.  Will do my part by heading to the Yard next Friday for the first time this season - can’t wait!
    • This was an interesting and in-depth reply from MLBTraderumors.   Q: Mason Miller and Lucas Erceg are amazing, and totally wasted on the A’s right now, despite them playing better than expected. But any trade would best be for solid prospects-SEVERAL solid prospects- who are 2-3 seasons away instead of MLB-ready guys who would also be wasted on the current and near-future teams. Given that, what team has those far away prospects to pay for one of those splendid slingers? A: This brings up a philosophical question: should bad teams have nice things?  Mason Miller provides a reason to watch the A’s, and his season has been insane so far.  And while he’s under team control through the 2029 season, we can’t count on him to hold up or on this franchise to be willing to pay him those last few years if he does. So the cold-hearted logical answer is for the A’s to trade Miller as soon as possible, as he might be at peak value and could be a lot less valuable the next time this organization has a realistic shot at contending.  (I am aware that the A’s are not awful so far this year at 15-17, but I do not think they have a realistic chance at making the playoffs anytime soon). It’s worth considering that Miller was a starter in college and all through the minors.  He came down with a “mild UCL sprain” in mid-May of last year, which involved a four-month recovery period and short appearances when he returned in September. A’s GM David Forst explained to MLB.com’s Martin Gallegos last Decemberthat he’d like to see Miller stay healthy for a year as a reliever before the team considers moving him back into a starting role.  When a pitcher excels as a closer to the degree Miller has thus far, it’s often hard to get him out of that role, but if he can eventually transition back to starting, he could theoretically be even more valuable.  But given last year’s UCL sprain and the attrition rate of the game’s hardest throwers, there’s a pretty good case that Miller is indeed at peak value right now. I don’t know where the hell the A’s are going to be (as an organization) in 2026, when Miller will receive his first arbitration salary. Given the extra uncertainty around the franchise these next few years, Phillip’s case makes some sense: trade Miller (and/or Erceg) now for prospects who are several years away from the Majors. The problem with this idea is that a prospect’s uncertainty is higher the further away he is from the Majors.  Trading Miller this summer might require threading the following needles: The other team is very much in win-now mode The headline prospects you get back should be position players, since this is about mitigating risk The headline prospects you get back should perhaps be in Double-A: close enough to the Majors to have some certainty, but far enough away where you could wait at least a year to promote them So, top-ranked Double-A position player prospects on win-now somewhat likely (40% or better chance) playoff teams: Samuel Basallo, Orioles catcher Chase DeLauter, Guardians outfielder Cole Young, Mariners infielder Harry Ford, Mariners catcher Emmanuel Rodriguez, Twins outfielder Matt Shaw, Cubs infielder Kevin Alcántara, Cubs outfielder James Triantos, Cubs second baseman Dalton Rushing, Dodgers catcher/DH Spencer Jones, Yankees outfielder Jacob Melton, Astros outfielder A lot of these teams are able to assemble good bullpens without giving up top prospects, and therefore might not be in the Miller bidding.  The Cubs, though, are a good example of a team with the type of prospect that it could make sense to flip for Miller.  It all might be too cute, though – maybe just enjoy Miller where he is now.  It’s also worth keeping in mind that the A’s have not exactly hit home runs in trying to convert established good players like Matt Olson, Matt Chapman, Chris Bassitt, and Sean Manaea into prospects.
    • Anyone catching the game on MLB TV tonight?  I’ll probably have it on given the relative lack of other baseball options this evening.
    • Bradish was great but yeah I vote for the Yankees infield. LOL.
    • Agree fully but good luck re the overreactions on this site (or any site, in fairness).
    • 18 SB at the end of April is pretty amazing.
