Mock Draft picks 21-30

Recommended Posts

With the 24th pick, the Phillies select, Jr., 3b L-R 6-1 200 Wichita State Shockers, Conor Gillaspie.

Gillaspie was named the 2007 Cape Cod MVP. He was consistently able to put the sweet spot of his bat on the ball, winning the batting title (.345) as well as MVP award. The gritty, gutty Gillaspie is super intense and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Gillaspie's style of play will go over well in Philly. Gillaspie will be a nice compliment to the All-Star packed infield of Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins.

Great article about Gillaspie in BA.

More analysis on Gillaspie to follow. (hey, I'm at work right now.)

Good pick. Gillasapie's only potential issue is a lack of in-game power, but he should get stronger as he gets older, and the Phils will hope he develops that power as he goes. Nice get for Philly.

With the 26th pick in the first round, the Arizona Diamondbacks select Kyle Lobstein (Coconino HS (AZ)), SP. Lobstein is a projectable lefty, considered one of the more polished HS arms in the draft. He currently has solid command over four offerings: 4-seam FB (upper-80s), 2-seam FB (lower-80s), SL (upper-70s) and CH (mid- to upper-70s). His frame shows room for growth, and scouts all agree that his velocity and movement will increase as he matures. He currently projects as a middle-of-the-rotation lefty, but has an outstide shot as a front-end starter depending on how he progresses physically.

He has great presence on the mound and already possesses an advanced pitching mind, impressing scouts with his approach -- throwing to all corners and effectively changing speeds. The Diamondbacks hope he'll advance a level each year, making his projected arrival in ARI to be sometime in 2012.

Hunter has been out for sometime with an elbow injury. But is due back soon.

This from Baseball America...

"Hunter hasn't pitched since March 1 against Texas Christian and won't pitch this weekend either, but he's close to returning. Tests have revealed no structural damage in his elbow, rather a nick that simply needed rest to heal itself. Rodriguez said Hunter has felt good for the last three weeks and has wanted to start pitching again, but doctors advised caution, so the Waves are being careful. He has begun throwing bullpen sessions recently, and the plan is for him to throw a couple of innings in relief next weekend against Portland, then slot back into the rotation the following week against Santa Clara."

Well, that is a bit of a bummer, but hopefully doesn't scare off teams too much. I really think his calling will be as a closer anyway, so maybe it is a blessing and someone will just convert him full time.

Looking to add some much-needed young muscle to their line-up, the Yankees surprise everyone and take Allan Dykstra,1B, out of Wake Forest.

This move will probably be wildly panned by the critics.

Hey, because it's the Yankees, I think it's a great pick.

With the 29th pick of the OH Mock Draft the Indians select...

LHP Brett DeVall -Niceville HS, Niceville, FL

Big lefty who pitches primarily in the low 90's, with good movement on his fastball, and excellent control. He features an effective changeup and a developing curve. Scouts are impressed with DeVall's large frame which projects to hold up nicely into the later innings of games.

With the 30th and last pick in the first round, the Boston Red Sox pull a surprise and take Sonny Gray, RHP, Smyrna, TX. Gray has a very sound commitment to Vandy, but if any team has a shot at signing him away from them, it would be the Sox. While Boston is aging, and after passing a glance at Dennis Raben from Miami, they decide especially in the AL East, pitching wins wars, and they are stockpiling for a long one.
