So what makes the most sense?

IN – Baltimore, Cleveland, Colorado, Oakland, Texas, Toronto

FENCE – Saint Louis, San Francisco, Seattle

OUT (?) - Los Angeles (AL), San Diego

 

Cleveland is in serious discussion with Napoli  on a one year deal.  Let's say he signs there.

Bautista makes little sense anywhere but Toronto.  No one wants to give up a #1 draft choice for a 36 year old in decline.   The Jays need an outfielder and I think they work out a deal.

Texas keeps flirting withEncarnation.  Let's say he goes there.

So who is left for Trumbo's market?

No Oakland (too cheap), SF ( they have Belt) San Diego (Not where they are headed)  

So now we are down to Baltimore, Colorado, Saint Louis and the Angels.  

With the O's bidding 4/52, I like their chances of landing Trumbo.

I hope this is wrong. In that situation, I would hope they get Trumbo for far less. I don't want a 4 year deal at that rate for a guy who is likely to be worth about 1 win a season.

If he does end up being the guy without a seat in this game of musical chairs, he better be cheap. No more bidding against ourselves.

Profar, maybe.

They have Profar, Gallo, Choo, Gomez, and Mazaro for OF/1B/DH.

I think Trumbo or Encarnacion would be a good fit if they don't mind having one of the other five come off the bench.  If I ran the Rangers, I would not do it.  I'd maybe go after Carter or Alvarez.

Trumbo is the highest ranking player left on the free agent market according to MLBTR.  The O's have bid 4 years, though now pulled back, which set Trump's market.  Several teams do not want to go that many years.

The Rangers and Orioles appear to be the most likely teams for Trumbo.  The Rangers probably have their pick of Napoli or Trumbo.  The Rangers offered at least 3 years for Encarnacion.    That puts them in the mix for Trumbo if they want him.

The O's rarely outbid other team for players.   That gives the Rangers the upper hand.   There have been reports that the Rangers have been in serious discussions with Napoli.   I have not seen reports that the Rangers are in on Trumbo.   However, it has come time for them to make an offer if they are interested.

The Rockies have been mentioned as a landing place for Trumbo but they have to make a trade of an outfielder to make room for Trumbo.    That seems problematic as Trumbo  is now the top player left to find a home.

Oakland was in on Encarnacion but they only wants to go two years.  That probably will not work with Trumbo.

      Westburg batting #4 isn't your typical clean up hitter, but he does 2 things well enough that it's probably going to be consistently effective. 1. He has a high average with runners in scoring position. 2. If the 1st 3 batter fail, he'll be good at leading of the 2nd inning. Bonus: He's got some pop in his bat so once in a while he can do what traditional cleanup hitters do. I love how versatile and consistent Jordan Westburg is.

      I hope we extend Henderson and Adley at the All-Star break this year. Rubenstein can show that the Orioles are sitting at the big boy table now. They are some of the best players in MLB and should be getting paid.

      To me, it's more about offensive inconsistency game to game. I don't do the research that many others on here do, I just go off of what I see and feel. And I feel like this offense is very inconsistent and it's an all or nothing approach. There's been back and forths on social media about whether the lack of walks is going to hurt this team long term especially in the post season. In addition to the walks it's the impatience on many nights that drives me crazy. Also, the lack of station to station baseball. Last night, I felt like it was nothing but attack attack attack.. clearly after a couple innings this approach was not working so why not change it up a bit? And also, no one is talking about that after we got Gray out of the game, we didn't do jack **** against their bullpen. The bullpen guys (excluding Hensley) do not have Gray "stuff". So what's the explanation for why we didn't even have a hit after we knocked Gray out? If these trends continue, yes, we may not get swept (because we'll hit enough HRs), but it'll be difficult to rattle off long winning streaks which unless they fall apart due to injury, will make it difficult to keep up with and overtake NY (they just won 7 in a row and like 10 of 13?).

      Offense is down across MLB.  Some people are living in the past re their expectations.

      #1 is Gunnar, and it isn't even close.   He appears to be a MVP candidate and could be for the next 10 years.   Lock him up if he's willing.  Big gap #2 is Westburg.  He's a gritty, hardnosed, excellent player who I think we could lock up at a decent price.  Not being a highly touted as Gunnar and Adley I think it's possible a more team friendly deal could be obtained.   He's a solid rock that along with Gunnar could anchor our team for a while.  HUGE gap #3 Holiday.  While his mlb experience was a SSS, it had made me slightly gun shy on extending him.   I still think he'll be fine,  but my expectations have been slightly tempered.  I certainly would not offer what I may have offered in the spring.   Doubt he accepts what I'd be willing to offer at this point.  #4 Adley.  I love the man.   I love how he plays the game,  I love his bat and his baseball makeup.  I don't love his arm accuracy or his pitch calling at times.   But more importantly I don't love the fact that he'll be a catcher in his 30s for most of any extension.  And with some of the talent coming up,  I'm not sure we need an expensive DH/1st baseman type.  Catchers usually age quickly, and while he might pull a Tom Brady and play forever at a high level,  the odds are against it.  I'd extend him,  but only for a short extension,  even if the AV was a bit higher.   #5 Burnes only for a short extension,  3-4 years max.   He's great,  and just what we needed.   And I'd pay high for those 3 years.   But I don't think I'd want to be on the hook for 8 years with any pitcher right now given the injuries lately.  Burnes has been incredibly durable, but so were other pitchers until suddenly they weren't.  #6 everyone else.   Don't want to extend anyone else really.   The pitchers are too volatile and injury prone, the other position players are too flawed (Mullins, Hays, Santander) or too young (Mayo, etc).

      A rotation of Bradish, Rodriquez, and Kremer is a solid core.    id love them to resign Burnes. And a decision will need to be made on Means as he’s nearing free agency as well.    I suspect they will find an alternative thats quality if Burnes walks.    I suspect Means because of his medical history is signed cheap or leaves. I’m guessing we can count on one of the AAA guys to be ready soon.
