Dylan Bundy 2017

Buck's original comment was On the 20th.  He has one more start and then will get a breather.  A breather is not just flipping him and Tilman in the rotation.  A breather would be completely skipping a start in the rotation order.

They did not give him three extra days rest.  It was one day extra flipping hi and Tilman when you have an off day.

I think there are seven days in a week.  With that fact known to most people, if he started last Saturday and then starts this Saturday that would not be on a normal schedule but he would have been given EXTRA REST of two days.  If they stick to there plan of starting him Thursday and then as the fifth starter after the break he will be pitching 4 games over a 28 day stretch since his start on June 19, 2017

It's a shame how this organization chews up pitching prospects.

A competent organization would have shut down Bundy when his FB dipped to 90-91 after being 95-96 when he first cracked the rotation last year. Now he is just another Miguel Gonzalez, back of the rotation finesse pitcher. There will be an injury announcement before  August.

Thought Bundy battled well on a night when he didn't have his best command.    That one inning killed him.     Now go get some rest during the ASB and come back strong!

His "best command" seems like a theoretical construct (or maybe a distant memory) right now.

Does Bundy look like he's lost weight since the beginning of the year?  We know the guy is a workout warrior. Has he lost some muscle mass and is now weaker?  I know pitchers lose weight in season because of the grind of the summer and 162 game season.

Don't know, but he sweats more than any pitcher I've ever seen.    He must lose 5 pounds of water weight every time he pitches.

They need to consider shutting him down early this year.

If we are out of serious contention by August, no reason to risk him as he already looks worn down by the ASB.

I don't think they will have any choice.  At best, he's got maybe 6 starts left this season.

I do understand Buck's connundrum.  Tough to skip your most effective starter, particularly when you have so many 2-4 inning outings from the rest of your starters for essentially 2 months now.

But he's basically gassed by July 7th.  Symptom of the rotation problems, but honestly don't think Buck had any other choice.

In his first 11 GS, Bundy had surrendered only 23 ER in 71.2 IP, 2.89 ERA.  His last 7 starts have been much worse, 29ER in 36.1 IP, 7.18 ERA.  In short, that's 6 more total ER in slightly more than 1/2 the IP.

Looking at this another way, even with the extremes, is the aggregate really the pitcher that Bundy is?  Were we spoiled by his early success this year?  Remember, last season in 14 GS, he had an ERA of 4.51 and in 18 starts this year his ERA is 4.33.
