A few nuggets....

Millar, Mora, Payton, Bynum, Luis Hernandez and Ramon Hernandez have trade value? Seriously? And letting them continually show how inept, incompetent or uninspired they are on television day after day improves their trade value how?

I want him to say in a press conference something to the tune of:

"I and my staff understand that the kinds of fundamental mistakes the team sometimes makes are absolutely inexcusable and we're doing everything in our power to address the issues."

And then I want him to hold someone accountable for those mistakes by doing what good coaches do - benching them or curtailing their playing time until they put in the work required to address the problem.

Yeah, that'd fly. Like an anchor.

In our rebuilding phase, I'd much rather have Fahey at SS playing solid defense, getting bunts down successfully whenever he has the opportunity and getting the occasional hit than a left side of the infield made up of Melvin Mora and a younger clone or old Melvin Mora (ie nowhere near as good as Mora in his prime). That would be an obscene number of errors gnawing at the psyche of our young pitchers as they try to develop. I don't care if we literally give up an automatic out every nine batters like you do if you don't have enough girls on your co-ed softball team, you need somebody at shortstop who can field the position respectably. Hall can't.

I don't dislike Hall per se. I'd be ok with having him as a utility guy if we didn't already have Mora on the team and he were cheap. I just don't see the point in trading Bradford for him, or taking on the financial obligation. I'd trade Bradford for a prospect. Otherwise, Bradford has more value to us than a redundant utility player who isn't that young, can't handle SS defensively, and is signed to a terrible contract. Perhaps most of the posters on this thread don't realize it, but he's owed $6.8 million next year and $8.4 in 2010, plus a buyout for 2011. Why on earth would we take on a contract like that?

Your post sums up my thoughts. Well said. But I really don't believe we are interested in Hall.

Because what he's doing now is working so well.

Dare I say that the greatest coach in O's history, Earl Weaver, wouldn't have stood for his players making these kinds of mistakes.

You realize our level of talent is, without pulling punches, incredibly subpar, right?

You also realize that Earl Weaver managed a COMPLETELY different breed of player in a much different era of player management?

I know you weren't talking to me, but I have to defend Bill Hall's defense for a second. I posted this at the beginning of June, and its relevant again in this discussion. I'd love to have him as our SS:

Go here, read this article, then come back and tell me that he was a "below average fielder to start with".

Or this one: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/ar...elding-awards/

Here's some of that article:

Shortstop

In fact, the top 10 fielding shortstops in the majors may all be National League players. I'd rank guys like Jimmy Rollins, Bill Hall, Rafael Furcal, Jose Reyes and Khalil Greene ahead of any of the AL shortstops. Even 39-year-old Omar Vizquel might have had a better year in the field than any of his AL counterparts. If I have to pick an AL shortstop, I'll go with Juan Uribe. Grudgingly.

Or how about this one, where Bill Hall has double the rating of Jack Wilson:

http://stat.wharton.upenn.edu/~stjen...arch/safe.html

Do some research before you make a claim like that.

And seriously, Chad Bradford for Bill Hall is really that outlandish? Please, I've seen deals for bullpen arms that we're much more lopsided then this one. I would argue that this deal or something very similar would work well for both clubs.

Sarcasm was noted..I'm talking about the now NINE pages of criticism.

Yeah...maybe instead we should just take Trembley off to the side, give him a little talk about his mistakes and a smack on the tucus...and watch as he does the same things over and over again :laughlol:

C'mon, it's FUNNY...

When a player makes repeated blunders, bench him. Quiroz for Hernandez and

tell Ramon why he sitting.

Charlie Manuel sat last year's National League MVP(Jimmy Rollins) for loafing

and yet there's nothing more Trembley can do? Come on!

I realize they may be shopping Ramon and others, but when these players

are loafing or playing poorly, you're showcasing that as well.

I'm not advocating benching every player for every mistake, the repeat offenders on this team are self evident.

Earl Weaver had talented players.

For a while he also had Frank and his kangaroo court. Earl didn't need to bench or yell at anyone.

Could be that DT is looking for a Frank to step up. We know Millar keeps the guys loose. That's cool, every team needs that guy. But they also need the enforcer.

This post reeks of Adam Jones stepping up. IMO, sooner or later, Jones will be the team leader. It's just whether it happens to be sooner than later.

I think you forgot about Brandon "The Enforcer" Fahey...;)

If he is a plus defender at SS then I think he could be a nice stopgap possibility. He did have two 800+ OPS seasons in 2005 and 2006 i believe so he has the potential to bounce back offensively. Obviously, his pricetag is a little steep but if we get a really young SS or 2 in other deals that are still a few years away then I am for getting Hall. Also, the Brewers might chip a little bit of cash in or give a pretty decent prospect in with Hall to help offset his high cost.

Dare I say you don't know what you're talking about.

Earl would've yelled and screamed and had a fit. And then he would've penciled the guy right back in the lineup tomorrow if he thought that playing that guy gave him the best chance to win tomorrow's game. By his own words, Earl didn't have a doghouse because he said he couldn't afford it.

    • That is a big hypothetical and I know how many of you will struggle to accept the premise.  BUT, if Mayo can handle 3B everything else could fall into place by next year.   That allows Kjerstad to take over RF when Santander leaves.  It leaves Mountcastle at 1B with Basallo in waiting.   O’Hearn to get another year at DH.  And either Westburg or Holliday at 2B.  Here’s the kicker.  Why not attempt to turn Westburg or Holliday into a CF? The Padres had no problem doing that with their #1 SS prospect.  Both Westburg (28.7) and Holliday (28.8) show better sprint speed than Merrill (28.0) or Mullins (27.7).   Merrill already has a +3 OAA so it looks to be a success so far.       This would allow the Orioles to solve one of their biggest questions.   Who succeeds Cedric and will they be ready by OD 2026? It also puts all of our top guys comfortably in one spot.  Logjam solved. 1B Basallo 2B Holliday (only because Holliday supporters get more upset than Westburg’s) SS Henderson 3B Mayo C Rutschman  LF Cowser CF Westburg RF Kjerstad DH Whoever You’re welcome!
    • Anybody notice him grimacing and flexing/shaking out his throwing hand a lot during this start? The grimacing was usually after a strikeout, so that may just be his pumped up face. But he is always inspecting his fingers (blister? callous?) and shaking out his hand. Broadcast didn't mention it and he seemed fine in the post-game and throughout the start. Just something I noticed.
    • I've watched him a few times this week against the Rays and Cards. The guy throws really hard and throws a lot of stuff that is a ball out of the hand. He walks guys and throws a lot of pitches to get through innings. I'm not sure what I'd give up for him.
    • How do you know it's Melanie, and not Ben Wagner, Geoff Arnold, or Brett Hollander.
    • Yea he was a starter and quite frankly, anything toxic coming out of that org should be taken with a huge grain of salt. It’s a disaster of an organization on every level imaginable.
    • KB mentioned during the game yesterday that he won't be in DC, so it's Melanie and Ben, such bad timing with a day off before and after the series.
    • I saw this game. I saw it in real time, and I remember thinking, after the last out,”someone better get the game ball, because NOBODY is gonna forget this game.” And just as if he read my mind, Mark Reynolds got the game ball and gave it to Chris Davis. This is a link to an article by Grant Brisbee, written the next day. Brisbee is the best sports writer I’ve ever read, and this is funny, prophetic, and a wonderful read. I share so you, too can relive one of the greatest of all Oriole Games.   https://www.sbnation.com/2012/5/7/3004252/baltimore-orioles-boston-red-sox-17-innings-chris-davis-pitching
