I think it's interesting - he is basically comparing the Carolina League to the SEC.

Decent start tonight - two runs on three hits in five innings. He left with a 4-2 lead.

I was somewhat surprised he didn’t come out for the 6th.   He’d only thrown 73 pitches.

Knight is definitely finding the Carolina League to be more of a challenge than the Sally.    Today, 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 4 K’s.    Most of the damage was done in the first inning, when he allowed 3 runs on 2 walks and 2 hits.   On the positive side, despite the rough start Knight made it through 6 innings in a tidy 85 pitches.

Knight didn't make his scheduled start today, does anybody have any idea why?

One worrying thing about Knight is that strikeout numbers have fallen off the table since he was promoted to Frederick. He has the lowest strikeout rate on the team with a 5.2 SO/9. That just won't cut it.

He's scheduled to pitch tonight (6/24).

It’s his first full season of professional ball. It’s the first time he’s really struggled. The demands on his body going from every 7 days to every 5 days will take him some time to adjust. Could be some dead arm periods in there as well. I will look for him to develop for the next two years and then see what he is then.

I'd wager this is a blip on the radar screen, not a sign of his prospect status ending. I'm not saying he'll be a Verlander, but I'm very happy he's a prospect in our system. With a couple of profile improvements, he could turn into a really nice SP for the O's.

Yep, like I've said, he's a legit prospect, but maybe not the guy to get overly excited about or anything. If he stays in the 90-94 velocity range, he'll likely need to move to relief.

90-94 and straight isn't an average MLB fastball anymore, think Bundy's but missing less bats. He's a pitcher, he's a fierce competitor and has good feel for working hitters, but it's not anything more than average command at best. The fastball gets whacked, it did in the SEC and it will in pro ball. He's got 4 or 5 pitches, but I don't know if he's the kind of strikethrower with those pitches to live off of pitching backwards.

He doesn't stink, if he stays healthy I'd be surprised if he doesn't make the show at some point. But people got way overheated on Delmarva performance for a polished college pitcher.

Yeah, his secondary stuff is better than Knight's. And his fastball spin rate makes it better at missing bats than Knight's.
