25% Capacity 11,000 fans for Opening Day 2021

Most of these rules are dumb.  For them to pretend they don’t want outside food and drink because of covid is just stupid.  We know that’s all about trying to recover as much money as possible and that can do it under the disguise of covid and people will be ok with it.

That being said, as long as we can get back to the park, whatever.

Hey now, they draw more than 11K on opening day and when the Yankees are in town.

Yeah, opening day is always a good pull.

I hope we can hit capacity most weekends though.  We had lots of sub 10k in past (non-COVID) seasons, right?  I'd be sad to not hit the 25% mark, even though I think it'll happen at least some.

I was not allowed to drink anything while working due to risk of contracting Covid from drink container.  No doubt you've heard of the drinking from a covered container superspreader event?  Anyway, its probably infection control people being super safe.  Its even better when they don't have to abide by their own rules.

I get the drink rule as it applies to water.  You used to be able to bring an empty water bottle and fill it around the stadium but I understand that water fountains have to be turned off- and I personally would not want to refill a water bottle in a public restroom even before the pandemic.

But the food and backpack rule?  Give me a break.  The one Washington Football Team game that had fans and I attended, they still allowed you to bring a clear backpack like they always did.  I don't know why the Orioles couldn't designate a backpack line at each gate, and require a clear backpack.  It's touchless bag searching.  So if you want to bring the backpack with food and drink........you've got to get the clear one, and understand you might be waiting in line quite a bit while they get checked.

I personally am gonna miss batting practice, but I'm just excited to get back to the ballpark.

And, with the much later arrival time, I'm thinking I might even stop off or have dinner before hand since I'm not trying to be one of the first people in the stadium most days.  I have a feeling many people will feel the same and just have food before coming in if we can't access the park only an hour beforehand.

    • Great to hear. Never really doubted that he did hold team meetings or try to rally them during the rough stretch.
    • I'm very confident in everything but our bullpen, which was terrible down the stretch (month of September). As long as we don't get into a later bullpen battle game, we should be good. The preference (obviously) would to get an early lead so that our guys can relax and forget about last year.
    • I also think it would be kind of lame to put him in after he's dead now.  It meant everything to the guy to get in, now you put him in when he'll never know he made it?  That's lame.
    • I've never really had a strong opinion on Rose to the HOF, but I will say that its a bad look to have him out for gambling while I have to sit through all the damn 'single game parlay' picks on pregame shows and what not.  I know, he bet on games he was involved in, and I used to think that was a legit reason to keep him out - and maybe it still is.  I'm just not so sure anymore given the overall embrace of sports gambling.  Its everywhere, its annoying, and it moves the needle a bit in re Rose, IMO.
    • I don't think it's really taking anything for granted. We have 9 guys in the bullpen for a three game series. In an ideal world we use 4, maybe 5. A lot of teams are using 11 pitchers (8 bullpen). The use case for Selby/Suarez would be an emergency situation where the game is likely lost anyway. Even in that situation you still want to keep Suarez fresh rather than burn him in a game you are likely to lose. In the meantime, use the roster spot for a guy you might actually pitch. We are trading maybe .0001% WPA for the wild card series for 5-10% WPA of the divisional should we get there.  That being said, I'm surprised it's Selby over Bowman.
    • If this WC series comes down to we lost by not having Suarez on the roster we have much bigger problems than we'd thought.
    • The Twins offense had been absolutely abysmal for a long time. They were 17 games over .500 at one point then couldn't score a run to save their lives and went into a free fall.
