You did an excellent job of bringing a .940 OPS to the table without mentioning it was in 67 at bats.

Anyone with half a brain would know that it wasn't a full season or anything close to it with how much McKenna has been up and down this year.

I wasn't suggesting that McKenna would become something special, just that it's way to early to label him "nothing more than a 4th outfielder".  Again, he was putting up a .940 OPS at Norfolk.   He shows bat speed, some power, speed and defense.    He probably has more tools than most.

Is it his .154 average, .256 SLG, 37.8% whiff rate against pitches grouped as fastballs or his .000 ISO on any fastball on the inner half of the plate that makes you think he has good bat speed?

Maybe it's his 86.1 EV (88.3 MLB avg) overall that makes you think he has good bat speed?

Maybe it's his .100 AVG and .108 XBA and 50% whiff rate on 4-seam fastballs so far this year?

Or maybe you are letting you eyes dictate what you believe when it's the easiest tricked way of "scouting" a player?

I have to scout off my eyes in the minors but Baseball savant tells me everything I need to know off major leaguers.

Whether it's officially "slow bat speed" or his inability to make quick swing decisions and get the barrel to the ball on high velocity, McKenna has absolutely not hit velocity this year and that matches up what I saw in the minors when I've been questioning his bat long before most pundits have.

Saying all that, at some point he will start cheating to get to the fastball and will have a little success until they adjust and start mixing in more breaking pitches which will give him fits.

He does bring outstanding defense and speed to the team so I do think if he can have a little success at the plate that he can be a good 4th/5th outfielder.

Then it's been decided.  Nothing more than a 4th OF.   Got it.

Yeah, well, you know what they say when you assume...

I didn't assume.   I expected knowledgeable posters to realize that McKenna has been up and down this season and couldn't possibly have 200 AB's down in the minors at this point.    I never said he put up a .940 OPS over a full season to this point.    All I said was that he was putting up a .940 OPS at Norfolk.

Way too early to make any definitive judgements on Mckenna. Young players have had a tough go of it this year with the lack of minor league seasons last year and I'd imagine it's a lot tougher if you've been on the Norfolk shuffle and hardly start back to back games. A 0.6 bWAR in 50 games is encouraging from him no matter how you slice it. His speed and defense definitely plays at the big league level and I think he has a decent eye at the plate. I'd like to see him given the time to adjust to ML pitchers.

Sorry I haven't memorized McKenna's minor league stats and where he's been and how long he's been there before.

This is hilarious, look at the argument you're making.  "I said THIS but I never SAID THAT and YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN."

Hopefully, more objective posters can just look at the original posts when all I said that it's too soon to call McKenna only a 4th outfielder and that he had put up a .940 OPS at Norfolk.   I didn't try to mislead anyone.     Now that your Corn's butt boy I guess this is your new schtick.   LOL

One thing about it, I think he all ultimately be a 4th OF but he will have a plenty of opportunities to show otherwise with this team. There's really no one in the corners that is a guarantee.
