Anyone who thinks Correa is coming here is still waiting for the Orioles to make their WOW offer to Mark Teixeira after a Ravens game.

Belkast just texted me a HUGE rumor!

But I don't know why a winner like Correa would come to a place like this.

It's not too hard to figure out if you compare us to San Diego and Machado. Very similar model actually, and it's not like playing in a division with the Dodgers and Giants is exactly easy.

Ah yeah, the Belkast days.  That was a fun time.

There is a radio interview with Raul Ramos who started this rumor with Glenn Clark.  There is two main points in the interview.

1)  Why would Correa come to the Orioles?   His agent is Boras who goes for the highest bid.   If the O's bid the most they have a good chance of getting him according Ramos.

2)  Ramos thinks the O's have an advantage because as of now they have space on their payroll to stay under the luxury tax.    He thinks that the Yankees, Dodgers and Red Sox don't have that space.   I don't agree with this.   Those big spending teams will not worry about he luxury tax if they want him.  They will sign him and either pay the tax or trade players to get under the luxury tax.

I can see Elias wanting Correa.  I can see John Angleos supporting Elias in that effort.  I have been saying that Elias is looking for his long term SS.  But out bidding the big boys is a tough thing to do.

Scroll down to the interview with Raul Ramos (March 1, 2022)  Currently 2nd on the list.

It’s not tough at all.  There isn’t a player in MLB that teams can’t outbid a big spender for.  Every team has the capability of carrying a monster contract(s).

They just choose not to.

We see it a lot when the Dodgers, Red Sox and Yankees don’t get the top guy.

It's rather interesting to me that MLBTR has not touched this rumor yet despite the lack of transaction activity to report due to the lockout and one of their big guys (Steve Adams IIRC) having argued for the Orioles signing Correa multiple times this offseason.

Makes me wonder if their sources have told them it's bunk...?

I just wanna get on record as saying 10/300ish for Correa would be a big mistake. Already questions about his injury history, how long he can stay at SS. He’s had some up and down seasons with the bat, which averages out to an .837 for his career. We’d be much better off spreading that money around to get competent players at multiple positions.
