Frazier puts up a .729 OPS against RHP and .624 OPS against LHP.  I agree there is plenty of room for lineup maneuvering to create enough at bats for Westburg. Gunnar is the only infielder I'm interested in seeing play everyday right now.

Frazier, Mateo and Urias aren't so valuable that they can't get the occasional day off to make room for Westburg and/or Ortiz. Plus Mateo is quickly headed towards a career as a defensive specialist/utility player and pinch runner.

If there are three infield positions and 7 games in a week I think we could (roughly) see 6 starts from Henderson, 5 from Westburg, 4 from Frazier, 4 from Urias, and 2 from Mateo.

Unfortunarely baring injury, Ortiz is the odd man out.

If Frazier sits against lefties and Urias or Mateo sits against righties, Westburg would be able to play everyday.

I haven’t seen anything from the O’s that says that’s what they want to do with Frazier and Urías/Mateo. If they did what you propose there would be no room/no playing time for Urías or Mateo.

I know that some (maybe you) would be A okay with that. I just don’t see the O’s moving in that direction right now. IMO it is not realistic for Westburg/Ortiz to come up and out produce Urias right now. Most probably they will come up and struggle like most prospects/young players with promise do.

I think there is room for 1 “acclimating” now that things seem to have clicked for Henderson. It may be Cowser who gets that next nod instead of Westburg/Ortiz?

I guess time will be the great revealer of things like it always is.

In that scenario, Urias could start vs LHP, effectively platooning with Frazier (not necessarily at 2B), plus being the first off the bench whenever a starter needs rest. It's not a huge role but it's a role. Of the two, I prefer Urias there, with Mateo exclusively late inning defense and pinch runner. Westburg is really good and needs to play to see what we have. If he struggles he can go back down with no harm done.

Yes, I am fine with limiting Mateo to pinch runner and late innings defense. He'd still be the next guy up if anyone is injured or struggling.

So in this scenario who’s playing SS?

Gunnar.

I’m not opposed to Gunnar at SS. But would prefer Urías at 3B. I don’t see the O’s moving Frazier off of 2B but I guess Westburg could get consistent time there if they did?

I don’t think that it’s a good idea to acclimate Westburg and Cowser at the same time though. I guess we will see soon in terms of what they decide.

This aged well. 🤣

One home run isn't going to change my mind that Frazier is a below overage, overpaid hitter. It also won't change my mind that Westburg will be a more productive 2B and that he should replace Frazier as soon as possible (although I know Elias won't make that change anytime soon).

I like Jordan Westburg as much as the biggest fan really looking forward to his debut, but there's a huge difference between AAA and MLB, and to assume any player won't have a significant adjustment period is naive. Just look at Vavra. This season he was struggling with the Orioles 26 man roster, then he gets sent down to AAA and suddenly he's mashing to a .328 average with a .915 OPS.  Kyle Stowers did nothing but rake in AAA while he was there, and people clamored for him to get more at bats, so they started playing him more regularly after he was called back up. And what did he have to show for it in MLB? A .067 Batting Average.

Major League and Minor League are not the same.

Gunnar is another good example of the adjustment period. The "Send him down!" crowd has suddenly gone missing from this message board.

Anyway, good defense and 8 home runs with solid bat to ball skills at the major league level are a good contribution to the lineup and that's what Frasier has done so far this season for the Orioles. He has been an upgrade from both Odor and Vavra.
