DL Hall 2023

Nice, businesslike inning from Hall tonight.  Came in for the 8th with a 4-run lead and didn’t mess around.  He was pissed that he allowed the solo homer on a hanging change-up, and screamed a curse into his glove as he left the mound.  But for me, he did his job well.  Threw strikes and didn’t nibble with a 4-run lead.  Left us in a very good position to win the game and didn’t force us to warm up another pitcher in the 8th. I count that as a very positive outing.

I felt the home run hit off of Hall was just a good hit by the batter. The pitch was low in the strike zone and center of the plate, and the batter uppercut swinged it over the wall. 

I was most pleased with how Hall responded after that and took care of business. I see that a sign of resiliency and progress. He didn't let the solo shot compound into something worst. He got the next 2 batters out and completed the inning.

His stuff looks really good and his command looks good enough. More and more I'm pretty convinced I want to see him in the rotation next season.

I think Hall needs to be left alone to develop as a back end reliever. The organization waited and waited for this guy to develop as a starter and now I think it's time to get what value they can out of him. I'll be satisfied with Hall's development if he turns into a shutdown reliever. I am letting go of the hope he can develop as a quality starter.

I'm looking more (or hoping for) a Dennis Martinez outcome. Get comfortable in the pen, pitching at the MLB level and then move to a starter.

I would love for this to happen but, I don't think it is going to so I hope they keep him on the pen and he continues to develop into a shut down reliever. He can be a weapon as a bridge guy who can go two - three innings (ala Hader) to get to the closer. I think he'd be more valuable as that than a closer.

This is the role that's best suited for him and he's shining in it. I truly think he'll be a real weapon by the playoffs.

The HR given up by Hall didn't bother me much. In a situation like that, you want a guy who throws strikes, doesn't put guys on base via the BB or HBP, and makes the other team's batters earn their way on. I'm impressed and kind of amazed that Hall seems capable of doing that, even though it was just the Angels. When you do that, you might give up a solo HR to a guy who earns it.

Pretty huge performance by DL in the 11th to put us in position to walk it off in the bottom of the inning.  Did you see how pumped he was coming off the field?   Great confidence builder builder for him.

Really great to see him finally come through in a big spot there. Would love to know what Hyde said to him in that mound visit.

Big Ben was saying that it was a conversation about pitching around Arozarena.  Specifically, keep everything away, and so be it if he walks.  So, Adley sets up off the plate away, and DL misses his spot by 18 inches and gets a called strike on the inside black.  Turned out to be a great pitch, but definitely not what he was trying to do.  Regardless, he got the job done and made several outstanding pitches.

I think Hall needs to be a closer back end option; still think Flaherty needs to transition to BP and see if he can be a back end piece as well

Closers need to be consistent. Hall was great today.

He put everything else away and Arozarena insisted on trying to end the game on his own.

Hyde probably told him to keep the ball when Hall tried giving it to him!
