.322 BA  .404 OBP .893 OPS

I know he's streaky... but that's his second half... over 208 PA's

I think I gotta find out if that's real.

Get what you can for O'Hearn, which probably isn't too shabby.

I don't feel good about trading Mounty or Hays, since we need all the hitting we can get.  Anyway I doubt we would get the return we all think we would get!

Shows up pretty robustly in his career numbers...

career .842 OPS Vs LHP

career .742 OPS vs RHP

That's not a fluke.. but the degree seems to vary year to year.

And where Mountcastle seems to favor LHP... Mayo shows a bias for RHP

322/404/489 is a surprising shape of triple slash for Mountcastle to output.

We knew all along the good version of him might hit .300, but a +80 OBP probably isn't something many of us would have guessed.    43/25 K/BB in that second half about the same K/BB numbers as Corey Seager had over the same time frame.

I would say that those are two places to look to upgrade. I’d personally look to outside to org for a more established player than one of the prospects.

I'd like to see Hays go to Pittsburgh for Bednar. I'm happy to throw in a prospect like Norby (who has no path with the O's) to make it happen. Gotta think Pittsburgh could use a good all around player like Hays with years of cheap control remaining, along with a mlb-ready prospect. Works for us because Bednar is an elite reliever and we have too many reclamation projects.

It isn’t.  It’s really one hot streak of 29 games, 121 PA, in which he had a 1.086 OPS,  His second half before and after that:

21 PA, .714 OPS

66 PA, .599 OPS

Pretty much the same as the 104 PA, 1.099 OPS heater he had May 31 - June 28, 2021, the 92 PA, 1.181 heater from July 30 - Sept. 1 2021, or the 131 PA, 1.066 heater he had from May 30 - July 3, 2022.   

I don’t necessarily think we’ve seen Mountcastle’s best full season yet, but he’s a streaky guy who can carry a team one month and be a lead anchor the next.   That’s what we’ve seen for three years now.

I’ve been holding out hope he could be a 800 OPS guy.   Almost got there this year. 
 

I guess going into his age 27 season that is still in the realm of possibilities.

Hays is arb eligible next year.  Prob gets ~3MM.  Next year is his last “cheap year”.  He will start to get expensive quickly.  That’s precisely why I think he’s a trade candidate.  I’d trade him for an elite reliever.
