That’s why I wasn’t in favor of acquiring him. We need shut down guy. Kopech doesn’t bring much more value than the DFA guys we signed.

Agree completely! We need to add a really good back end of the bullpen piece, not a project or take a chance on a player (like we did Fuji last season). IMO this team is simply too good in every other era (except the bullpen) not to make a move(s) that fix the only hole on this team so that we can improve our roster and give ourselves the best chance for postseason success. The future matters for this franchise, but equally important is the present (this season).

I think we could work with Kopech and turn him into a lockdown reliever (White Sox organization sucks) but it’s a risk and I’m not really in favor of more “projects” when we’re trying to win a Championship. Not willing to pay what Chicago likely wants for the guy.

Oakland reportedly open to discussing Mason Miller but the price is going to be steep.  Still, it really hurts if a competitor gets him.

Whatever we do, I hope to God they dont deal Kjerstad or Mayo..both will someday be lethal bats...Norby? Sure. Stowers? Ok. But Not Those two big boppers. It would be a big mistake, especially because pitchers are as fragile as a porcelain doll.They break easily. And if we break it...we bought it.

I really don't think the O's have enough to get him, not without completely emptying the cupboard and losing players we really don't want to lose.

With Miller's performance and contract status, Stowers and Norby would just be throw-ins. (IMO)

The Orioles have more top end prospects than any other contender (maybe sans the Phillies who don’t really need Miller). So if we don’t have enough to get him who does? Who could outbid us for his services realistically (other than the Phillies)?

I don't think it would have been about laughter. Elias is very aware of player values. He would have hung up because he wouldn't want to decimate the farm system or major league club. 

Look at it this way. What would it have taken to acquire Felix Bautista in May of last year if the O's were already out of playoff contention? What package of players/prospects would Elias have demanded?
