In this trade, the Orioles would acquire two solid, controllable relievers to help fortify their bullpen. Gaddis, 26, has posted a 2.87 ERA in 17 appearances for Cleveland this season with 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings and 1.7 walks per nine. Smith, 24, has logged a 2.30 ERA and 1.43 FIP over 16 appearances this year, his first in the big leagues, with 13.8 strikeouts per nine (24 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings).

Seems reasonable to me, a swap of controllable assets.

I’m not even sure how they’d fit two new relievers on the roster. Sure they can DFA Bauman but are they going to give up Kjerstad just to force their hand on that and maybe Suarez?  You’re basically giving up three players for those two relievers (which i admittedly know nothing about other than the referenced stats).

I could see maybe one of them being dealt for the right guy, but not both.   Kjerstad could get you that bullpen guy, but I think Elias would want another "sweetener" for a deal for him.   Maybe one of these relievers and lower-level prospect?

They're competing right now, tied with the most wins in the AL. I don't see them trading decent MLB relievers when they are.

This is probably true.  They're in a poverty division, too, there's a good chance they'll come out on top of it.

Giving up a potential everyday player, who projects to have 30+ hr power, for volatile relievers sure isn't a value play.
