Penn traded to the Marlins for IF Robert Andino

So since Andino is out of options.........that means he will be on our team as a middle infield backup.

My thinking is that this is just a filler move for 2009........unless of course he starts to tear it up and we can look at him as a long term SS, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. We can't send him down, and it doesn't seem like we would likely flip him for someone else.........so would anyone expect to see Andino on the team after 2009?

Is this the equivalent of dealing Penn for nothing?
No, this guy has a chance to be a decent utility guy from the looks of it.

Fair trade from both sides. We get a guy with low upside but a decent chance of reaching it. They get a guy with low upside as well, but in a more important role, and a lesser chance of reaching that upside.

This kid looks decent. He was a 2nd round draft pick who was in AAA as a 21 year old. Looks rushed and has been yo-yod back and forth from AAA to the ML roster for last 3 years. He is worth a flyer on.

144 Career AB's in 79 games. .201 Hitter. Last year was 13 for 63 in 44 games with 23! k'S. Was a 2nd round pick in 2002.

I thought the Marlins had a pretty solid staff, they must have Penn pegged for the pen.

Seems like we got Louie Hernandez back for Penn, only older.:laughlol:

At least now Penn can forget his bag and trip down steps for the Marlins!

Don't know a lot about this guy. Could he be a long-term shortstop?

He's a purely a backup middle infielder with some speed. He's had a few 20 steal seasons in the minors and a 67% success rate.

He's had an .800 OPS at AAA over the past two seasons and can steal a base, 67% success rate and a 20 steal season in 2007. Looks like a cheaper version of Freel who's still a couple of years away from maximizing his potential as a hitter.

Are we not going to need a backup middle infielder next season?
