Where is Our Clutch Hitting Late in Games?

So once again I ask if a losing culture is pulling him down than why the hell is hitting all game long? Does the losing culture only manifest it's self in late and close situations? What about in games where the O's are down big early? When does the losing culture come into play?

I think it manifests itself when the Orioles are behind.

Nick is hitting .246/.366/.391 in losses while Jones is hitting .333/.385/.514

Roberts' split of .234/.289/.364 in losses is even worse.

There's a big difference there.

I think it manifests itself when the Orioles are behind. And he's not hitting all game long.

They don't know it's a loss until AFTER the at-bat. Ergo, your statement is ludicrous.

Show me a team that usually wins when two of its biggest stars have bad games and I'll show you a championship team.

Well I am sorry for all of the bad stuff that I said about you. You have provided irrefutable proof beyond any reasonable doubt of your Theory. Roberts being around here longer has the lowest numbers (this season but why complicate things with more meaningless data) because the "culture of losing" has infected him longer. Nick is in the middle and Adam has hardly been infected at all, but I think , no, I know he will start showing signs soon(probably as soon has we extend him).

If we would have signed Tex with the WOW offer we would have immunized our boys against this dreaded condition or maybe if Scott Moore got a chance we could turn the tide.

Little experiment here.

I litterally just typed in the 5 best players in the AL Central of the top of my head, and guess what? All 5 have large OPS splits between wins and loses.

Thome is a HOF and the most the others are on their way, yet they all have big OPS dropoffs during loses. Is the losing culture of the O's spreading to the AL Central too??

David Ortiz: 1.084 OPS in wins, .784 OPS in losses in his career

Eddie Murray: .954 OPS in wins, .698 OPS in losses in his career

Albert Pujols: 1.197 OPS in wins, .854 OPS in losses in his career

Frank Robinson: 1.079 OPS in wins, .741 OPS in losses in his career

Bunch of born losers...

Professionalism is pretty much lost this day and age, so is team loyalty. These guys are playing for their teammates or for themselves and if the team as a whole is slumping, it's not like they can be held soley accountable. They too fall into the culture of losing.

Huff you would have a point. But Markakis and Roberts are locked up. They could go 0-300 and still make the same $.

Even if they are cut from the roster, they still make millions of dollars and a competitive team would surely pick them up.

It's funny that Jones has the best stats close and late, because from what I can see he has the most passion and fire on this team.

I think you'd find if the Orioles had something to play for, you'd see a lot better clutch stats. Perhaps the arrival of Wieters and Reimold and some of the younger pitchers will help boost performance and morale and invigorate the team.

I agree and I hope its just his firey competitive nature and not just a desire to emulate Roberts and Markakis and their fat LT contracts!

Its all of baseball!

2009 MLB - 870 OPS in wins, 638 OPS in losses

2008 MLB - 863 OPS in wins, 631 OPS in losses

2007 MLB - 869 OPS in wins, 643 OPS in losses

"The losing culture" may be an pandemic that will dwarf Swine Flu and destroy our favorite game!
