Wieters is becoming the king of bloop hits, and that's not a good thing.

Does anyone remember Mauer hitting the ball weakly so often? Don't get me wrong, a hit's a hit, but I'd like to see him try to hit the ball, oh you know, hard.

Strength allow you to muscle balls into bloop hits. Weiters has great strength and he is starting to really put it all together. I really wish the doubters would just stop and watch. It is really going to be fun

I don't understand why comments like these are necessary - first off, you can't prove it either way, and second off, they're both going to make mistakes here and there. It's ridiculous to use those mistakes, unless they become persistent, as ammunition against the other.

I agree 100%. We have a real tendency to get high on players and trash others who we deem in their way. I am excited to have all 4 of our young outfielders.

A lot of question about it. That is wrong calling that an error. He went a long way and is looking back into the sun. I agree that Pie covers mre ground but he has a tendency to break the wrong way and is very hesitant on where he is throwing the ball.

Settle down, Beavises. I was referring to Jones holding his neck and Trembley's generally cautious approach to injuries. I'm expecting Pie to get an extra rep or two out in CF to make sure Jones is ok.

Everyone sure has picked sides and dug-in on the whole Pie/Jones nonsense. It's a GOOD problem to have and Jones is way to important of a figure in Baltimore City to be replaced. So he won't be. The rest of the shouting match is moot.

I love Pie and Jones, and I don't wish either of them any bad luck. But lately to many people are bashing Jones for his D. Honestly both of them have been shakey, and much like Reimold losing the ball in the dome, this is a play that is not the fault of the player but just happens from time to time. But to bash Jones defense on a ball lost in he sun is nuts. What I am saying is that both of them would have most likely had the same outcome on that play.

Joe Mauer's Rookie Season (1st full season- '05):

131 G, 9 HR, 55 RBI, 64 SO, .294 AVG, .372 OBP

Matt Wieters' Rookie Season (so far- '09):

65 G, 5 HR, 26 RBI, 53 SO, .271 AVG, .319 OBP

Their rookie seasons are actually pretty similar. (Considering Wieters' season is not completed, and Joe Mauer started the full season in '05.

I think what happened was that, when Ty looked over his shoulder, he knew he was gonna get thrown out and decided right then to plow into the C. The C saw this and was bracing himself for the collision, and was actually leaning back from the play, not into the play. So, it was Ty taking a bead on the C that caused the C to not block the plate. IMO, no way Ty could have changed his fullback posture into a slide that late. The only way Ty would've been safe if he could have exploited the C backing up by toeing the plate right before the collision. Theoretically he could have, but it required Ty doing 2 things at once...

Yea, I agree. It was a split second decision.

Please tell us what comments are necessary and which are not, so we can always be de rigueur, Miss Manners.:rolleyestf:

My response was not on your message. Anther poster called it an error and I disagreed. I am not sure what a Beavises is, so I am not going to worry about it. I will leave the Baltimore city thing alone. WOW.

    • I can't imagine they have any expectation of Mateo going back to being a regular. If he's going on his annual hot streak, then it's smart to ride him until he gasses out, then shift him back to his reserve role. Holliday is taking that full-time spot soon enough.
    • Urias has a career 103 OPS+. Had two hits and a walk today plus another squared up ball for an out. I feel like Urias is a bit of a forgotten man, but he is a very solid defender and an average bat. That's probably not good enough for us but that is because we are spoiled with plus guys at basically every position. I agree on Westburg though, if Mayo doesn't end up with 3B, Westburg is adequate there and so far his bat can play for a corner IF.  Hitting on Westburg and Gunnar the way we have really pushes our system over the top. These are guys we weren't necessarily counting on but they are turning into bona fide stars. Only question is how to find room for them all. Westburg 3B makes Mayo the heir apparent at 1B. Somehow he needs to push Mountcastle but he's not a FA until 2027. Maybe he takes Santander's spot and Kjerstad keeps waiting.
    • Interesting.  You know Gunnar and De La Cruz are the same age, yet Gunnar's put up 9.4 career WAR to poor Elly's 2.7.  If anyone was overrated during the last series it was Nick Lodolo.
    • I wondered about that too.  Maybe he'll take his turn on the IL when Grayson is ready to return.
    • It’s silly to be judging Bradfield at this stage.  I don’t know if he’ll be good or not, but I know you need to give him a couple of months at least before you have any clue.
    • Anyone else notice Kremer shaking his hand or fingers the last couple games and looking like he’s in pain?  I’m surprised Ben and Kevin didn’t pick up on it today.  It looked obvious to me.
    • Povich is a starter. It makes no sense to bring him up and put him in Baumann’s role. Especially not in a short term situation when he’s pitching so well starting in Norfolk.    also - it kind of feels like Baumann is just a placeholder. When wells and/or Grayson come back, there isn’t another logical move other than maybe option akin, who has pitched dramatically better than Baumann. But I can’t imagine Baumann surviving both wells and Grayson coming back without another injury.    I don’t think Elias is doing anything crazy other than holding onto assets with value until it’s necessary to let them go. Is Tate probably better in the long term? Yeah. But he’s also coming off a year long injury and they don’t want to overuse him. Let them use his option for the flexibility, manage his innings, let Baumann either prove he can rediscover early 2023 form or get dfa’d in the coming weeks while eating whatever innings we need him to. Not like he’s costing us games at the moment.
