It's tough to look at us as anything other than underdogs against the Red Sox and Jays down the stretch.

Their offenses are more well-rounded and less prone to slumps.

Their starting rotations are better.

We are going to have to do the little things very well to finish ahead of these ball clubs down the stretch. We've been a little bit lucky so far.

Respectfully disagree. All have better pitching than Orioles. Will be in Yankee territory soon unless big moves are made. Just my two cents..

It's always dangerous to judge a team when its in a slump. The hitting will return at some point and we'll win our sure of games, in my opinion.

I think we are one of the five best teams in the AL I just don't think we are better than the Sox or Jays.

I will be satisfied with a Wild Card. The Tigers or Indians and the Rangers or the Astros will likely be in competition with us for the second wild card spot. Will be worth following those teams closely come September.

Unfortunately, as you get into August and September it's really hard to hide flawed starting pitching. You can't win with just Tillman and junk.

So decision to make over next 24+ hours

This is not a playoff team. Houston and

Boston will get in. I would start a rebuild.

No rebuild, no decision to make. The only question for DD is how much to give up to improve the current club. There is no going back when you have invested this much and you are (at worse) 1.5 games back.

I'm not worried about Toronto in the coming years. Let them win now, as the next few years they'll be getting pumbled. Saunders, Bautisda and Ecarnacion are gone after this year. All they'll have is Tulowitski and Donaldson, who are good but do better because of the Tornoto lineup. They don't have the farm that could replace these guys is the thing

I don't think we're in for a 2005 like collapse. I do think this team will make the play offs although the odds are as a wild card. But it is obviously too soon to say the division race is over. Were in a funk now but we'll snap out of it soon.

Something is wrong with the O's. They are not playing the way they should be. Every possible thing is going wrong at the same time. Pitching sucks, hitting sucks, all kinds of little blunders here and there... and on top of that we're getting some unlucky calls. All the bad mojo in the world is concentrated in this team right now.

Unfortunately, I have tickets to the game on Tuesday. If I didn't, I'd totally just tune out for another week, because it's very statistically unlikely that a team would lose 12+ games in a row (it's happened, but not often, even for terrible teams) so I'd at least get to see them win a game or two before the season's over. :laughlol:

How long has the hitting slump been going on now? 2, 3 weeks? Four?

      Well said he only bats lead off once. The lead off Home Runs are partially a product of him batting with nobody on base( pitchers more inclined to challenge) If they adjust the OBP will go up and so will the steals. As far as a fifth AB who else would you want up, plus whoever is PH for our # 8 or 9 has Gunner in front of them.

      I would do both. Adley is 25 and looks like a Buster Posey kind of trajectory/career type. Obviously, by the back end of that deal (last 2-3 years) he will probably not be doing as much/the bulk of the catching (especially on a 10 year deal), to retain faces of your franchise/potential Hall of Fame players (at least Orioles hall of Famers), and maybe guys who one day get a statue out at the stadium is worth it to me. Especially considering how long it’s been since we had ANY. Ripken is the last one (over 20 years ago).  Gunnar is a no brainer IMO! He is 22 and already one of the best players in the sport. He may someday go down as the greatest player to ever wear an Orioles jersey. It is imperative IMO that you never let him walk out of the door (especially in his prime). IMO that would be franchise malpractice. It is extremely unlikely that you could find a player to replace him (be anywhere close to as good). He may be on pace for the greatest Orioles offensive season ever AND he’s only 22!

      Mullins would be perfect for this if he would hit to his career average. Once Holliday comes up, start him and Mullins 8-9. Once Holliday hits, he can be the leadoff hitter of the future with Adley and Gunnar 2-3.  A 9-1-2 of Mullins-Holliday-Gunnar would be pretty nice.  I agree, Gunnar has to be 1 or 2. Every spot you move him down reduces his predicted AB's by 11% and we don't want that. Better to have him hit more times even if it costs a few base runners than more baserunners/fewer ABs.

      Really well said and agree on all.  I too noticed the right leg almost always going to first base as he overswung (really I noticed it his first spring training game) compared to striding more straight towards the pitcher.

      If every major sport can have reply for impactful calls, then baseball needs to follow suit ASAP.  Yes, we can reply certain things in mlb, but the technology is there and it is being used in the minors with great success for strikes/balls. It makes 0 sense to keep letting awful calls by the umpire impact the outcome of games.

      Now back to Gunnar, Gunnar is in the midst of most likely the greatest individual season in Orioles history. And we have 21/22 pages on him and what 80 on Holliday?
