Roch says that these two signings brings the Orioles total signings to 27, but I count 28.  I wonder if one of the players we thought had signed actually hasn't, or if Roch just miscounted?

JJ Montgomery was listed as close today. Though we have the money. I un-bolded. But I did not change things around. It's not enough money to be a physical deal, so maybe college money. Will update as we  get more info. Thanks.

MLB has him as signed so I’m guessing it has to be an issue with the physical, perhaps the O’s are trying to renegotiate the bonus (which is reported as 195k), they are kind of notorious for doing those things although usually the medical staff is correct.

I think this is nothing.

MLB.com has the following listed bonus for -

#9 Kevin Magee - $ 6,000

#10 Dallas Litscher - $7,500

Why would they sign for so little? Even if they held out for 75k the Orioles would pay as they still would be under-slot.

It’s just due to the economics of how today’s MLB draft system works.  These guys are just happy to be drafted honestly.  “Senior signs” as they’re called.  They have little to no bargaining leverage.

Because that is what they agreed to before the Orioles picked them. What if I agreed to do a job for $50K a year during the interview process and when I showed up to do the final paperwork to get me hired, I demanded $75K? Would the employer want to hire me? I doubt it. Even if they did, it would leave a sour taste in their mouth that would likely impact my employment at some point. This is very similar. As was said earlier, they are senior signs whose talent merits being drafted much later. The Orioles draft them earlier so they can use the difference between the slot money and the bonus money to go over slot with other draftees.

They were fortunate the Orioles did not tell them they would give them two grand. I think that is what Jay Flaa got.
