I’m not in the mood to rehash the argument about whether Buck should have gone public with that. It was discussed ad nauseum last year.    Buck’s not here any more and there’s just no point in revisiting that.   But the topic of Mountcastle’s low walk rate remains relevant to assessing his chances of major league success.

I'm critical of the bb rate, but it's worth noting that Mountcastle is 5 years younger than the average player in AAA. I believe Elias mentioned that yesterday in that interview. Worth remembering.

Absolutely.    What he’s doing at that age is very impressive.   Following Austin Riley’s promotion to the majors, right now he’s the youngest player in the IL who is over the 1 PA per game threshold.

Btw, Riley has 5 homers in his 9 MLB games - OPSing in the mid 1.200's.  He tied last night's game with a 9th inning 2 run homer and drove in the winning run with a 13th inning single.  We need a couple of him... and 2 Mike Soroka's please.

It's true - the way the 2 organizations are run; Austin Hays is to the O's organization as Austin Riley is to the Braves.  Yuzniel Diaz is to Ronald Acuna.

Recall that in 2017, Hays was one of the five finalists for Minor League Player of the Year.    Acuna won the award.    Injuries have really set Hays back since then, but fortunately, none of them were the type that are insurmountable.   Here’s hoping that Hays is only delayed, not denied.    

BTW, the other three finalists were Vlad Jr., Bo Bichette and Jon Duplantier.   Vlad Jr. won the award in 2018 and is now off and running in the majors.   Bichette had a good not great year in AA and is having a mediocre AAA campaign right now, but was still considered a top prospect coming into 2019.    Duplantier was effective but hurt for some of the 2018 season.    He’s been shuttled between Arizona and its AAA affiliate several times this year, pitching in relief when in the majors.   He’s pitched well so I’m not sure why they keep shuttling him back and forth.

Amen, I would love to see Hays rebound.  He certainly gave us reason for optimism.  And we have some good minor prospects - just not on the level the Braves had - though the Braves had the best set of prospects in baseball, so it's not fair to expect the O's to be on that level.  Really, the O's are overdue for some luck, and when they do add Rutschman on June 3rd, maybe that's when the luck starts to change.

If it happens, our trio of Rutschman, Hall and Rodriguez has to be up there with some of the best trio's in the minors.
