Baltimore’s international class is also expected to include right-handed pitchers Raul Rangel and Moises Chace of Venezuela, along with shortstop Leonel Sanchez of the D.R.

Additionally, the Orioles are expected to sign catcher Kenny Baez, right-handed pitcher Edgar Portes, along with shortstops Alexander Sanchez and Roberto Martinez, who are all from the Dominican Republic.

 Top international prospects signings

Expect the Orioles to be busy in the years to come. Many of the top international prospects in this year’s class, and even some in the 2020-21 class, had already picked a team when Perez took over in early January. The club shifted its focus to finding late bloomers for the current period while also scouting future classes.

Optimistic that we’re finally fully engaged in using this as a source for talent.  But, have never heard of a single one of these guys.  They’ll all spend the next year or two in the Dominican at a version of extended spring training or the DSL.  By the time one or two of them reach Sarasota, someone here will have to remind us where they came from.

I am sure you heard the name Luis Ortiz before so clearly you have heard of at least one of them. lol

I've seen that Rogers video before and man does that bat look slow. Lol.

I'm no scout but a lot of wasted motion in both his hitting and his fielding/throwing. Our coaches will tune that up tho.

Eric Cains RHP DR

That name does not sound Dominican at all.

I remember reading an article years back that some parents actually take their kid from the US down to DR to avoid the whole draft process.  They can get into pro ball quicker, choose the team they want to go to and get a decent chunk of money compared to being drafted in the 10th round(arbitrary number not an exact number from the article).  It has been a long time since I read it, and dont remember all the details and this may not be the case for this kid but I dont think it is a wide spread thing or we would hear more about it.

Looks like his name is actually spelled Erick.

Good summary, I wouldn't be surprised about this.

All 27 players are either pitchers, SS, OF and 1 catcher.  Not that they will all stick to SS, but that lends me to believe that they were all some of the most athletic players on their respective teams.

At 16 yea, I think they are all pretty much shortstops or pitchers.

    • They can get a veteran starter without having to decimate their top prospects and this team absolutely needs bullpen help. They can get  an effective reliever who isn't Mason Miller. The pitching staff is being held together by duct tape right now and it needs some reinforcements for the second half. There isn't enough room for every position player prospect and there are pitching needs it only makes sense to deal from an area of depth.
    • Trading for Taillon would be interesting but I'm not sure what that changes about potential payroll. He's not exactly expensive, but an extra 18 mil a year tacked on is still significant given we've hardly handed out any money to anyone yet. I just assume we are out on Burnes regardless. JT's a decent #3 on a good year and #4 on a bad. You can reasonably expect him to give you 30 starts a year. That cutter is perfect for LH at OPCY. I'd trust Elias's judgement. He could be kind of under the radar in the trade market if the Cubs do sell.
    • Need more bullpen help not less.
    • FWIW, the Yankees lost again tonight. They have played three additional games, but they are four behind in the loss column, so even if the Orioles lost all three of those games, we would still be ahead of them in the standings. I would like Burns to pitch as much as possible, and the only logical reason for adjusting the rotation is that they just don’t want him to get tired. Oh well.
    • I’m not sure the orioles should make any trades. No one seems to be on the market worth any of their top 4 prospects. The team lacks depth pieces of value in their 5-15 range to be major players in a seller market. They have major needs of 2 SP, one being a #3, and another 2 RP, one being a legit shut down guy.    So many holes in the pitching staff. I’m just not sure they can all be addressed without decimating the farm system. I’d hate to give up 2-3 top guys and get smoked in the playoffs because they have a weak pitching staff.
    • I don’t think their pitching is awful. They’ve certainly had some very good and very bad pitching games recently (as well as offensively) which should even out with time. I do think they need some reinforcements though to replace some of their fringe pitchers (Povich/Baker/Tate).
    • Mullins is hitting .174 in July with 1 XBH and a 7:1 K/BB ratio. Cowser’s OPS on the season is now .108 points higher and he’s been worth 1.7 more WAR in almost the same number of PA’s. Deciding who gets more PA’s between the two shouldn’t be that hard. Mullins has a .640 OPS the last calendar year. I’ll take my chances with Cowser.
