Jones should be up here playing second base every day.  It's not like he can't learn and improve at the position while with major league coaches.

He's been putting on a defensive clinic this evening in Memphis.  A couple of far-ranging stops on sharply hit balls.  (Along with a double & a dinger at the plate!)

Meh, why bother with a 23 year old 2nd baseman with a .400 OBP in AAA, 15 XBH's in 133 at bats, 7 steals in 8 attempts, improving defense, and all kinds of tools?   Afterall, we've got Valaika.

I don't think its the spectacular plays that the O's are worried about.  Its can Jones make the plays that a major league 2nd baseman are supposed to make on a consistent basis that they want to see him make.  So far Jones has played 26 games at 2B for Norfolk.   He has 6 errors for a.940 fielding percentage.    That needs to improve.

But but but... we have sooooo much to gain from keeping Valaika at second instead and letting Jones continue to rake in Norfolk and not get experience up here!

This is fair. I'd still prefer to see him gain the experience and do the work with the Orioles than in Norfolk.

Maybe we can move him and get some good young talent to bolster the minor league system.  He might have some good trade value.

Yes, we need more OFers for the minor leagues.

He might end up failing at 2nd base, but... he might not, and we got nothing else to try at the moment, so... see what he can do in Baltimore.  Yardball said it best.

Jerry Hairston if he couldnt field, and was bulkier, perhaps.

Hairston’s minor league OPS was significantly higher than Jones’. Unfortunately Jones’ minor league OPS is very similar to Valaika’s.
