Gunnar Henderson 2022

Some Harris details on the back years, figuring 2022-2028 were going to be ATL's 6.75 seasons.    I suppose Harris could also be on way to earning Top 2 RoY and transforming Club years to only 2022-2027, and 2028 to a FA year.

I think the $15M club option for 2031 must have a $5M buyout, as the 8 years 2023-2030 the salaries come up to $67mm.    If Harris is anywhere near as good as he's looked so far, 8/67 is more likely what he'll get, and ATL will have year to year options on his age 30-31 seasons for 2/35 total.

I think this is what Scott Boras would call a "snuff contract", as probably he would all of them.   I don't think Gunnar would take this contract today, even with the TBD if Elias/Angelos will brandish the stick of finding something for him to work on next April.

Braves signed OF Michael Harris II to an eight-year, $72 million contract extension with a $15 million club option for 2031 and a $20 million club option for 2032.

Robert Murray of FanSided was first to report that the two sides were "in deep discussions," and now the Braves have officially announced the deal with all of the (relatively team-friendly) financial details. Harris will make $5 million per season in 2023-2024, $8 million per season in 2025-2026, $9 million in 2027, $10 million per season in 2028-2029, and $12 million in 2030. It could shake out as a 10-year, $102 million contract if both options are exercised. Harris, 21, arrived directly from the Double-A level in late May and quickly established himself as the Braves' now long-term center fielder. A native of the Atlanta area, he's sporting a .287 batting average and .825 OPS with 12 homers, 39 RBI, 13 steals, and 46 runs through his first 71 big league games.

Like Adley, Harris is almost certain to be top 2 in the RoY voting and therefore gain a year of service time. But yeah, zero chance Gunnar (Boras) signs this deal, you could maybe get him 8/100, and that's about what it would probably take to sign Adley as well

Is this true?  I think Adley has come on but plenty of other Rookies having good campaigns who have full seasons.  Rodriguez, Witt, Ryan, Pena, Kwan, Kirby.  Will be tight for that 2nd spot.

Adley already leads in fwar with Rodriguez. It’s not going to be tight.

Much remains to be seen.  45 games to play is a lot.   Who contributes to a stretch run where their team makes the playoffs?

This is fair, if Adley gets injured or goes in the tank, it could change. I’m trying to be slightly more positive then that

To be clear, I think he couid earn ROY.   But historically the voters do give a lot of  consideration to what happens down the stretch.  So, we’ll see how he does, and how it impacts the team.

    • Traded for Bradish, traded for Irvin, traded for Burnes, traded for Flaherty, list can go on.
    • Pablo Sandoval was pretty good for a five or six year stretch. Prince Fielder was a fat slob as was his dad. John Kruk was not  remotely athletic and had a good career. Surprisingly, Andruw Jones was not what I would consider an elite athlete but is probably the best defensive centerfielder of the last 30 years. No, being an elite athlete is not required to be a good baseball player.
    • I wonder what your scouting report of Bobby Witt Jr was in 2022.
    • I think they are trying to tune the robo ump to more closely match the called MLB zone.  The AAA robo ump zone isn't 100% accurate to the rulebook zone, and while the called MLB zone isn't either, it's quite a bit closer.  Specifically balls fading out of the zone are more likely to be adjudged balls by the robo-ump because they're only checking pitch location on a plane at the midpoint of home plate, so for example, a curveball that clips the front of the zone, then drops below it when crossing the midpoint of home plate, would be called a ball by the current robo-ump, but is a strike by the rulebook.
    • Perhaps people shouldn't get personal with you, but you do bring it on yourself. You say outlandish things, presumably to troll, get called on them and then double, triple, quadruple, etc down until people take shots at you.
    • ??? The only sports where people peak younger than 20 is stuff like womens gymnastics and figure skating, where women have to delay puberty in order to maintain a body type ideal for the sport.  Nearly every other sport's athletes  peak between 22-27.
    • Ok several of you want to compare JH to Gunnar.  I am happy to do so: JH is 20 years old and has a .909 OPS at AAA after putting up a .941 OPS as a 19 year old at four levels. As a 20 year old Gunnar had a .826 OPS across three levels, .944 at A, .775 at A+ and .561 at AA (5 games) Even at 21 Gunnar went back to AA for almost half a season and his OPS at AA was .894 I am not saying JH will be as good as Gunnar but people saying we should trade for some pitcher we could have for a year or two have lost touch with common sense.
