Angelos Family Fued

Under the new approach, approved this spring by the General Assembly and signed into law by Hogan, the stadium authority can borrow up to $1.2 billion to pay for stadium improvements —$600 million each for the Orioles and Ravens. But no bonds can be issued without a lease, and the lease must be long enough to pay off the longest-term bonds.

No matter who owns the club, stadium authority officials believe Major League Baseball owners would be hesitant to approve a team relocation when there is a pool of readily available public money for what Kelso calls “frequent and continued reinvestment.”

Easy solution is to just never watch the NFL anymore.  Peter Angelos has made being an Orioles fan difficult, but because of Dan Snyder's ownership I would literally rather watch cricket, curling, bobsled or fourth division German soccer than the Commanders. No exaggeration whatsoever.

Not to change the subject, but I did  Not want to create a new thread just for this, and don’t get mad at me, but I do frequent the Nats fan forum (the clubhouse), And people are commiserating about the bad luck they had with Stephen Strasburg, and how after signing a huge contract, they’re getting nothing out of it.  And they were saying that it’s the worst contract of all time. I corrected them and said no no no, the Chris Davis one is far worse than theirs. Am I wrong?

Strasburg is more money than Davis, but I think to eclipse him he'll have to be healthy but horrific for the next four years.  Like, something happens and he now has a 78-mph fastball and gives up a homer every other inning, but refuses to give up and expects the Nats to keep playing him. Davis spent three years as easily the worst regular in MLB, then negotiated a retirement where he basically still got all his money.  That's the bar Strasburg is shooting for.  I don't think that's bloody likely.

Yep you run into the question if it is more damaging to never play or to provide innings extremely low quality innings.

There’s a Deadspin article that you all will find interesting titled:

”Get the Mayflower vans moving. Baltimore is not a Major League town anymore.”

It pretty says that the Orioles can’t compete anymore in Baltimore. It also says that every team gets $100M before it sells a single ticket, but what good does it do because the smaller market teams don’t put that money into the team. And that their promise to remain in Baltimore is just empty words.

If someone could find the article and post it, that would be appreciated.

“John intends to maintain absolute control over the Orioles — to manage, to sell, or, if he chooses, to move to Tennessee (where he has a home and where his wife’s career is headquartered) — without having to answer to anyone,” according to the lawsuit.

Notice this doesn't actually say John has ever broached moving the team to anyone.  It's very likely nothing but conjecture conjured up by an opponent in a legal battle to make John's control of the team seem scary.

Really says nothing.   Points out how bad the team is, how attendance is low, and how the payroll is low.   And somehow that is proof that the team "can't succeed" in Baltimore's small market and has to move.

That is prove we have had incompetent and at times cheap management.   There might be a short lived attendance boost in a new market but if the team continues to lose it would be short lived.

It's a superficial analysis.   Hell, it didn't even try to bring up the state of, and perception of, the city of Baltimore, which is something that could actually hinder attendance.   That might actually have been a valid point to make.   Instead, the article just basically said the team sucks, they aren't spending money, and fans aren't coming out, so they will probably move.
