What's going on with Correa?

I wonder if his deal with the Mets will fall through as well. If that's the case, there could be a huge loss of bargaining power. I feel another shorter opt out deal could be a reality. I wonder if Elias sees an opportunity.

I have a hard time seeing the O's sign a guy that failed two high profile physicals.

Why would a team as risk adverse as Baltimore sign a guy that may potentially fail 2 physicals? 

 

I wish him well but 8 have zero interest in seeing him play for Baltimore... before the physical thing and after.

Sounds like Mets are still interested, maybe negotiating for fewer years, more incentive money etc. Will be interesting how it plays out. I doubt the O's will want to touch him. May be the last time a Boras client gambles on a one year deal.

What one year deal?

He signed a three year deal with the Twins.

I just want him signed by someone so he can stop being a topic here lol. There is no reason we should want him with these flags and the way our roster is currently constructed.

To be fair, we don’t know that the red flags, at least medically, are short term or long term.  If it’s a condition that they worry is degenerative, for example, it may be that they aren’t bothered by for the next 2-5 years but are after that.

Also, the Twins made an offer on a deal close to $300m based on the medical knowledge they had with him on the team for a year.  Either way, this is odd.

I think it’s pretty safe to say it is a degenerative type issue.  Correa opted out, so he doesn’t have an active injury that wouldn’t allow him to play this year.  Otherwise, he never would have opted out.  Seems likely that he just believes whatever is going on with his leg will not hinder him much long term, while the clubs feel differently.

Elias would obviously have Correa take another physical with their team doctors. It wouldn't be a 13 year deal. But if Correa has lost a lot of bargaining power at that point, the O's could get him in a shorter more affordable deal that spans the next 3-5 years. My guess is that the physical shows that he has the capacity to be a good producer moving forward, but that his body will probably start to break down around his early to mid 30s and does not justify a deal spanning more than 5 seasons or so.

It was obvious something was really  there because Borass went directly to another offer, so quickly. Funny thing is, he seems to be giving the Mets tons of time. I guess we know who was really in on Correa.

This is the case with all of these ‘marriage’ deals we’re seeing this off-season though.

Imagine Correa is signed to a 12 year deal and reaggravates a previous injury in his 3rd year that reduces him to a replacement level 1b/dh?  Obviously these big market teams can waste $30 mill/yr and not be phased, since that might be 5 or 6% of the Mets yearly payroll by the time this deal is done.  That's the equivalent of a Jordan Lyles for the O's.
