Yea, that doesn't surprise me (even if I would have preferred it to be Handley). Bemboom is on a split contract, so they'll DFA him when McCann is ready, almost certainly no will be select him off waivers, and he'll go back to AAA because it makes the most sense in terms of what he could get in terms of a contract (he's not going to get paid more from another team on a straight-minor league contract if he refuses assignment, I can almost guarantee that).

If they put Handley on the 40-man, they either have to option him (taking up a roster spot) or DFA him, and he may be more enticing to another team once the season opens and teams have seen how their rosters have shaken out (even though he wasn't selected in the Rule 5).
