I hope you're right, but I'm not buying his explanation.  Even going back to last year when he was called up, I was disappointed in the velocity.  Most pitchers going from starting to relieving see a significant velocity bump, but we didn't see that with Hall.  Scouting reports all had him sitting mid 90s touching upper 90s/100 as a starter in the minors, so I expected him to easily sit in the upper 90s as a reliver.  That didn't happen.  Here we are in May, and the velocity seems to be declining and not increasing with each appearance.  My gut is telling me there's an injury.  Or there's another option that he's intentionally letting up on velocity to try to improve control/command, but that's obviously not working either.   Whatever the reason is, having our best pitching prospect showing mediocre stuff and terrible control and command is not a good thing for a system extremely thin on pitching...

Yeah, have to agree with this rather sobering take.

Wonder what @Tony-OH's thoughts are.

Was thinking the same thing.  Kinda waiting for a press release that says he’s shut down.

He should be done for the day.  6 innings 2 earned runs, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts and 1 homer on 97 pitches.   It looked like he ran out of gas in the 6th giving up a walk then two run homer with 22 of those pitches that inning but got final strikeout to end his day.

Wow, kinda shocked to see them let him go 110 pitches but great to hear about the results.  I guess he is up to full speed now after being delayed with the spring training injury.  I hope he continues to gain command and improve, you can never have too many good starting pitchers.

Hall now at 110 pitches 7 IP, 9  K's, 2 BB, 2 ER

FB velocity was back in the 93-94 range in the 7th inning.

I guess now with the warmer weather there are less pitch restrictions.

My milb app said he only threw 6 & Dillon Tate threw the 7th.

Can't believe they sent him back out for the 7th and I really can't believe he was still in after getting an out and then putting 2 guys on, but he got the double play to get through 7.

Maybe it was bad info. The box score now shows Tate as pitching the 7th. It did show Hall.

Box score correction as its now showing Tate pitching the 7th.

This makes a lot more sense to me then them letting him go 7ip 110pitches.

Curious to hear how Tate looked, the last thing I heard he was struggling in his rehab appearances and you have to wonder if he is going to need surgery.

I wonder if it was Tate throwing 93-94 in the 7th?

If Hall is topping out at 92, that's a problem.
