Is Kramer pitching his way out of the playoff rotation?

He's gone exactly 5 innings in one of his last four starts, and less than five innings in the other three.  Maybe he just needs some rest, but frankly Gibson is looking better than Kramer right now.  One of Gibson, Kramer and Means will be in the bullpen for the playoffs.  Will Kramer be the odd man out?

No, he’s not.  No question he’s been a bit ragged lately but I fully expect him to be in the rotation.  Hopefully with a few extra days of rest.

The rest of the Guardians and Red Sox data needs to come in, but Game 3 Means over Kremer would not shock me.

For an ALDS, I'd expect Game 4 to be the bullpen game with the Game 1 starter (and maybe even the Game 2 starter in relief) available for Game 5.

I think he and Means will both be on short leashes backed up by Gibson, Flaherty, and Irvin/TBD. He would have to be really bad to lose his spot, and Gibson really hasn't been better. I would downgrade him from lock to semi-lock.

However, I’d be looking to get at least two SP upgrades over the offseason so Kremer could be the 6th or 7th option, depending if Wells is considered a SP going forward.

No. Kremer has been our third best starter. You’d prefer him to be your fourth or fifth but it is what it is.

Maybe he slots behind Means, depending on how Means looks over his next two.

Maybe, depending on: 1) whether the O’s use a 3-man or 4-man rotation and 2) how well Means, Gibson, and Kremer pitch over the next week.  One or two of those guys are heading to the pen in the postseason.  If Means and Gibson pitch really well over their last 2 starts and Kremer can’t make it out of the 4th again, I think Hyde moves him to the pen.  Plus Kremer probably has the best arsenal to come out of the pen since he has the best power arm and strikeout potential.

Is Kremer now more or less tired than Wells in July?

There's an opportunity to ration his energy a bit more all the way from here.     He'll have an extra day before leading off Boston, and the finish line is close.

I did not realize checking his Game Log just now he has only under-ed 86 pitches once in 31 turns.     That is summa cum laude from Kyle Gibson school!

He should be pitching his way out of the 2024 rotation or, at the very least, pitching his way out of the “he has to be handed a spot and we shouldn’t look to upgrade from him” conversation.

It’s Kremer, you could at least get his name right. These guys are all tired and are at innings career highs.

The team could have been spending the last couple of years building them up more aggressively.
