I don't think most of the folks are factoring in his older starting age and the generally shorter career length of catchers.

I think they are just going with whom they think is the best player.

Gunnar had more bWAR, Adley had more fWAR.

I think it's a reasonable take that you go with the Catcher.

Right, I voted Gunnar, personally. Was very surprised to see the results, based on what we've seen so far, not sure how you can vote Adley over Gunnar.

Adley might be the most likely to end up in the Hall of Fame, since the bar is lower for catchers and he’s already had two 5 WAR seasons. So if you use that for determining the “best career” then I see that. But if you interpret this question to be “who will have the most career WAR” then it’s definitely not Adley. 

Holliday’s ceiling is even higher than Gunnar’s. Gunnar’s always going to have a hole in his game in his contact rates, but he’s got everything else you could want. However if Holliday grows into more power he’d potentially have virtually no flaws. Gunnar’s already done it at the MLB level though so he’s probably the best pick here. 

It’s insane that we have all 3 of these guys.

Just due to playing catcher, Adley will not play as many years as Gunnar and Holiday. He will break down earlier, even if they move him to 1B later.

Adley got #1 on MLB's Top 10 Right Now as they've already aired 2024 catchers.

In the intro to the program, Brian Kenny talked the audience through them using fWAR over rWAR for the catcher episode only, as Fangraphs' metric uses framing results more appropriately in the opinion of the show's producers.

YMMV if you feel Adley's framing is enough alone to catapult him past Gunnar.    I will say SS Gunnar a lot more likely than 3B Gunnar to hold up over him this decade.

If we are very lucky, Jackson Holliday will render this question moot by combining the 1-1 caliber and the high school middle infielder age advantage.

Gunnar's only like Eddie or Cal on pedigree...Adley and Holliday are more.

I think that it's really hard to go with the catcher, and especially a catcher that (through no fault of his own) started his career a year or two later than he should have because of wacky development processes as a result of a once-in-a-century global pandemic.  If he came up a year earlier I'd probably pick Adley, but he's probably missing out on 10-12 WAR worth in peak years because he started his MLB career late compared to Gunnar.  And this is on top of the fact that about 99% of catchers stop producing meanigfully after the age of 32, while Gunnar (assuming health) has a decent shot of producing into his mid-30s.

I like the question because "Best Career" is completely subjective.  Of the three, so far, just from observation, Adley has the personality and positivity to be great even when he's not at his best on the field.  I vote for that and how that impacts the people around him.  He has the traits of Brooksie, dare I say. 

Simply performance-wise "Best Career,"  - who knows, it's gonna be fun watching all of them.

If he's not traded, Basallo will be someone to watch relative to Adley's career.  I could see Basallo having 1/2 a season at AAA and then come up to be a 1A/1B tandem with Adley behind the dish.
