IMO Stowers is great part-time player who gets exposed if a regular.  He’s always going to tantalize that could be something more.  In part time role, he will do things like today where 3 run HR but also strikes out uncompetitively in two other at bats.  Putting aside platoon splits, I think best case Stowers is a Lowenstein 82/83 player type where gets 300-400 PAs and can deliver 15-20 HRs in limited role.

you would have to give him some steady play to determine this. I disagree, I think he’s an everyday guy, given his good splits. Love the raw power.

It's  hard to say what Cowser or Stowers is or will be but I think Stowers deserves at least a couple of weeks of consistent ABs at this point. Cowser looks like he can't hit a breaking ball to save his life right now and after seeing a couple of those he swings right through the fastball. Stowers could be similar but let's find out.

I've never been a big Stowers believer but I'd be happy to be wrong.  Dude deserves more at bats...I get it, it's a crowded situation but he's made the most of his at bats so far this year and has been mashing.

Going to be par for the course if he sits today after hitting a homer yesterday so I won't be surprised.  Gotta find out what you have in this dude though and so far he hasn't disappointed during this stretch in Baltimore.

He’s definitely not playing vs a sub 2 ERA starter.  Gunnar and one of Mullins or Cowsers will probably be the only lefties in the lineup tonight.

Yeah, I didn't even look at who was starting tonight for the Phillies so that's my bad.

I hope they find ways to get Stowers some more at bats though.

I say again, we should play Stowers every day, against all pitchers. Lets see if he can hit. Now is the time.

But it will cost Mullins and Hays some playing time. I think we already know what they can do.

Santander has not had an off day since 5/30. Tomorrow would be would a good day to gives Stowers a RF start and Santander a bench day. Did it yesterday with Mounty it also could work with Hays or Mullins. The could easily get him 3 or 4 starts a week, whether or not they do is another question.

Kyle Stowers has looked pretty good but he has 0 walks and 13 strikeouts this year and 8 walks and 54 strikeouts so far in his young career.   Those numbers don’t suggest future ML regular.    Hopefully, he can improve there.

I certainly will not argue your expertise, you may be correct in your analysis. But, I can't imagine how it is to sit so much and try to impress with your limited opportunities. You certainly don't go up and look for a walk (or a K). It is such a tough line-up to break into. I mean, even Holliday, came up and "given 2nd base" for a couple (three??) week stint and showed he wasn't ready. Stowers has not had such an opportunity.

Which was always part of the reason why the thought of extending him never made much sense.

Mullins is a guy that has very little chance of getting an extension or a large contract from anyone. He makes sense as a 4th outfielder type on a team with a right-handed hitting CF, something the Orioles won't have unless Jud Fabian just completely turns it on.

I have to imagine this will be Mullins last year with the Orioles, which should move Cowser into center opening up left field for Stowers next year.

You've never really been a Stowers guy and have always put a huge emphasis on K-BB ratio. While I agree that K-BB ratio can be important, I believe you had misgivings with Mountcastle as he moved up the chain for the same reason.

Stowers is always going to have a lot of miss, but he's not getting much regular playing time and pinch-hitting against relievers is not normally a time to work pitchers so I'm not surprised he's been more aggressive.

I still think if Stowers was given 500 PAs he's going to hit 25-30 bombs and put up an OPS north of .780. And I think he's improved his defense enough that I would feel ok with him in LF in Camden Yards.

I agree with this. I just feel like he hasn't been given a fair shot in two seasons up here. I can't see any reason that he can't start 4 games out of 7. Give Hays, Mullins, Santander and Cowser each one day off a week and let him start.

Count me in, but the Orioles have never really subscribed to that theory of splitting time like that. They really put an emphasis on everyday players and bench players with everyday players rarely getting days off.

This goes back to a discussion I had before.

Since Stowers likely doesn’t have great trade value, do you keep him and trade Kjerstad instead?  Even if you think HK is better, can he get you a way better player and Stowers give you 80-90% of what HK can give you?

It’s possible you have room for both too.  Just saying if you decide to trade an OFer, maybe this is the smart way to go?

Correct.  I was never a big Mountcastle guy but I didn’t, to the best of my knowledge, say he wouldn’t make it, just that he wouldn’t be an 800-900 OPS type of guy.  Mountcastle’s hit tool (.293 minor league avg) has allowed him to overcome his chase tendencies.  Stowers (.263 minor league avg), I don’t believe, has as good a hit tool.  He’s going to have to hit 25+ homers, minimum, to be a .780 hitter.   He’s capable of it.  I’m just not as confident about it as you are.  I think he’s looked good both ways.
