Carlos Pena: Class Act

I got into the Tampa area yesterday to spend Christmas with my parents. They retired and moved here a year and a half ago, and subsequently became pretty big Rays fans.

We opened up the St. Petersburg Times this morning and found the following half-page ad:

Having followed the Rays and Pena pretty closely over the last few years, I can honestly say that he means every word. He loves the town, the team and its fans in a way that he's repeatedly made clear. And they love him back. My parents got a little teary-eyed reading it this morning.

For a few reasons, it was time that he and Tampa parted ways, but I think he'll always consider himself a Ray deep down. I thought this was refreshing.

Did you see the Rays fans actually purchased a full page ad thanking Crawford for his time there? They raised the money over the span of a few months from hundreds of small donors. I thought that was pretty amazing.
