And I seriously doubt, 45 feet down the line.... that Brian was debating in his mind about sliding head first into first base. :slytf:

He was just running, going all out and it happened. You all are clueless if you BLAME him for that.

Let's be real here... If Brian was healthy coming in, he would be expected to swing a bat. Swinging a golf club is very little different. You have to be careful with him for sure, but he eventually has to step up to the plate. Or tee...

Playing golf was NOT what caused this, or any kind of mistake on Brian's part, or the club's. ;)

Oh no, I didn't mean to imply that playing golf caused his injury. All I'm saying is if you have a chronic back injury, perhaps the golfing can hold off until after his baseball days are over? Golfing certainly won't help the back issue, and it could agravate it.

I didn't necessarily mean you Dip, but it has been stated. Like I said, swinging a golf club is no different than swinging a bat. If he can't do one, he can't do the other. If there was a problem.... keeping him from playing golf is not going to make one iotas difference.

This offense looks considerably different without him in the lineup. He's one spot that they really just can't fill this season. Do we see more Andino/Izturis now? If he's hurt more seriously, do they make a deal? Who hits in the leadoff spot while he's out?

I know it might not be anything major, but recurring back problems seem like something that could plague him all season long. It's time for a contingency plan...and preferably one not named Andino or Izturis.

Hopefully we hear this morning that his meeting with the specialist went well, there were no bad signs in the MRI, and he's back on the field in a couple days! :D

But, to quote Han Solo..."I've got a bad feeling about this."

He shouldn't slide head first into 1B in spring training even if he is totally healthy! In fact, he shouldn't slide head first into 1B even if it's the regular season. It's a really stupid play.

I don't disagree... I just meant that it's instinct for him. Probably a very hard habit to break.

What is odd is that he has the habit to begin with. His father is a baseball guy right? Why would you ever slide into first, its slower and much more dangerous then just running through the bag.

Second baseman Brian Roberts played catch today and then hit off the tee, taking 20 swings from the right side and 20 from the left side. Roberts, who has been sidelined with back discomfort, hasn't played in a game since May 7. However, if you ask him, he doesn't seem to think it's going to be too long for him to start taking live batting practice and getting in games.

"Feels good. No problems. I’m pretty confident moving forward we’re not going to have any setbacks," he said. "There’s obviously a progression which we’ll go through. I’m not going to get in a game after hitting twice off a tee, but I don’t think this is going to be a long progression. I don’t think anybody foresees that. Date-wise, I don’t know for sure, but I think if everything goes well, it shouldn’t be too long."
