What Weams said. They need to maintain the offense and augment the pitching. Sorry, but Span + Zobrist isn't going to maintain the offense like Davis + random COF. You need the power bat in OPACY.

I'm not saying that they need to re-sign Davis at all costs. I'm just saying that replacing Davis with guys like Span and Zobrist isn't good enough.

It's plenty good. We already have 3 power bats, what we don't have is OBP bats. Those two give you .350+ OBP each. The problem with the offense is it relies too much on the HR, it needs more balance.

Davis was about +35 runs on offense last year. Pearce, let's say he's average, so zero. The O's RF/LFers were about -35, give or take. Zobrist and Span combine for an average of a little over +20 runs per 600 PAs. So replacing Davis and the Lough/Young/etc crew with Pearce, Zobrist and Span might leave you 20 runs to the positive. But... that's assuming Pearce is really an average producer, and Span and Zobrist live up to their career averages despite being in their 30s. I think it's plausible, if healthy and productive, that they and Pearce could be better than the combined production of 2015 Davis and the corner outfielders.

This is the same rhetoric spew we heard last season with Cruz and Markakis leaving. Yeah Players X + Y = Cruz and Players A + B = Markakis. If you go that route it will NOT work.. Sure we got lucky with some guys over preforming but also guys will underperform so yeah. Also, lets not forget that there are some intangibles with a guy like Davis.

Yeah. 2014 was a vintage year for intangibles.

And lets not forget that Davis himself could under perform 2015 Davis. It's not completely out of the question that Davis hits 29 HR's and strikes out a ton in 2016. And it's not completely out of the question that in 2016 players X+Y will equal Cruz and players A + B will equal Markakis.

I think AJ has forgiven him for 2014, and maybe we should too.

The thing is you won't be committed to as much money or years and if you were to addsay Jaso as a LH compliment to Pearce at DH you could have a productive offense shor term, You have to hope some of the picks pan out down the road.
