Dick Bleier, your new favorite reliever

Pitched to similar numbers in 23 IP for the Yanks in 2016. They let him go to the Os for PTBN\cash in Feb 17. Probably didn't fit the prototypical fireballing reliever profile the Yanks and many teams desire. He looks like he knows what he is doing. Hope he keeps it up.

It's a good comp but it's sort of a backhanded compliment isn't it.  "I have no idea how this guy survives the drowning tank without drowning."

Isn't it true? No one knows how it works. No one is EVER trading for him.

(3 DAYS LATER)

Bleier had a quick, 1-2-3 inning for the Orioles tonight, against the Blue Jays.

He only threw 12 pitches in the process, and he was pitching to the top of the Blue Jays' order (Curtis Granderson, Justin Smoak, and Yangervis Solarte.)

........ And Richard Bleier, who is available to pitch every day if you let him, retires the side in order in the 7th ........

Great attitude, great numbers.  Not a FIP MASTER due to his low K's but does his job without any BS.  He's like a Jamie Walker that gets paid in leftover breakroom snacks.  Hope he sticks around and keeps pitching as such.

Jamie Walker without the three year, 12M deal.  He's cheap and controllable and ours for the next five years

The problem is Roe's not that good. He spent a bunch of last year in Triple-A, for instance, even though he was 30 years old. He has played for 10 teams already (the Rays being the latest), for another instance. You shouldn't fall in love with Chaz Roe in expectation of him pitching the eighth inning effectively. You should fall in love with him because when he's called into the sixth inning of an 8-2 game, he will throw a pitch that will make you say "lol." You won't laugh, so much as you'll say the word "lol."

Anyway, Roe's Roe. But this year Roe's slider has been even wormier: It has had, on average, 14.2 inches of horizontal break, which you should understand is so stupid it should sound like I made it up as a gag. It's more than 2 inches more than the next-biggest break, almost 9 inches more than the average slider, and almost 4 inches more than Roe's slider break in 2017.

At some point, the Law Of Relievers says Roe will have a full season with a 2.12 ERA, and we'll all believe he's actually incredibly good. But so far as we can tell, Roe is like a dude who is really good at card tricks but not very good at cards. Still, the slider is something no other human being alive can do, and you looooooove him.

(vs. RED SOX, 4/15)

Another solid outing for Bleier.

He inherited runners on 2nd and 3rd base with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th inning. He got the 3rd out without allowing any more damage, keeping the Orioles in the game.

He threw 2.33 shutout innings overall, throwing 30 Pitches in the process )(20 )Strikes, )10 )Balls.)
