Chris Davis 2019 and beyond

I am not piling on to this. This is just cruel at this stage. I just hope for his sake he gets a hit tonight so this can stop.  Davis is here, he is not going anywhere anytime soon, so let’s hope something drops onto grass in the very near future.

I’d love to know which voices were advocating for Davis.   Buck?   Brady?   Both?    Someone else?

I find it interesting that Walters went public with this.   Did he do that on his own initiative?    Did Duquette ask him to do it?    I’m a little surprised he wasn’t subject to a non-disclosure agreement.    Maybe he was, but ignored it.

Me too.  I think DD did fine until hamstrung by ownership after the Toronto Debacle.

I see he is not in the starting line up tonight.  I think it would be a good idea to give him a couple weeks off to work with this technology and the coaches to figure some things out.

We're facing a lefty tonight.   He has sat a few times this year vs lefties (though not every time).

So don't read anything into his not being in the lineup tonight other than facing a LH pitcher.

Lucky for Walters the Angelos family isn’t the type to sue................wait.

I remember reading someplace that Trumbo was initially traded for as a fallback if Davis became either too expensive or simply chose to sign with another club.   The feeling at the time when Trumbo was signed was that Davis was all but gone.  Part of that story - - - and I wish I could remember where I read it, but it must have been the Fishwrap or MASN, was that DD was not inclined to over-spend to sign Davis.  So in comes Trumbo in Dec 2015 for the 2016 season and Davis is resigned in Jan. 2016.  It all seemed fishy at the time after reading the article I read... and then, of course all of the innuendo about power plays in the warehouse...

The article is excellent.  He has to go.  Merciful choice.

I would assume by the article that Trumbo 3 year deal was an Angelos deal as well.  It doesn't make sense to sign him to a 3 year deal as you got Mancini coming up and Davis signed to first. I think Peter Angelos is always enthralled by big home run seasons.  Brady, Trumbo and Davis all got rewarded.

Idk, the Trumbo deal wasn't outrageous for a guy who had just come off of a career year.  I could see this again as a DD cheap fallback on Davis.  Altho, Old Pete loves his HR guys, so who knows?  I don't look at the Trumbo FA deal in the grand scheme as something that broke the bank or that we overpaid on it at the time.  I think the suggestion at the time was he was looking for a lot more and pundits expected something more.  He's not an easy trade now at that money because he hasn't lived up to expectations.   So perhaps THERE is the evidence.  Someone or group w/in the org overvalued FA talent or valued vets over what might be promoted from the farm.

At least this article settled SOME of the arguments...

They are not talking about the Trumbo free agent deal, they are talking about when they traded for Trumbo.

And yea the FA deal was outrageous for a guy not coming off a career year given the market that existed.

Every day that goes by Duquette looks better and better, and the owner looks worse. Yet Duquette was trashed for 4 years straight around here while some (very very few actually) of us realized how hard (impossible?) his job was working for the tyrant that is Angelos. This is just yet another, now irrefutable example.

I always thought DD was a guy who wasn't given full autonomy and made the best out of a crappy situation.

It's naive to think this stops with him getting a hit.

Right i'd still like him to play out the year until Mountcastle or some of the OF's are ready. Right now Davis isnt blocking anyone so he deserves to keep playing. The streak is fitting since he had the worst batting average in history last year.

Heck.  If Porn hookers can disregard a NDA, why can't everyone?

He made plenty of idiotic decisions all by himself. He gets a pass for a few of them, but only a few.

Trumbo was not DD and instead others in organization having Angelo's ear.

    • Eh, if he stays in AAA, I don't really care either way.  Someone has to soak up innings, though in general I'd rather it be a young guy who can use the time to improve versus a washed up has-been.  I DO worry about us calling him up because he is a 'vet' and we have a tendency to give vets more rope than they sometimes deserve, even at the MLB level.  But for AAA depth it's hard to really care either way.  Certainly wouldn't call it a 'smart signing' but as long as he's just AAA fodder, it's a 'meh' type signing.  If he gets called up and then hammered, as is likely based on his recent numbers, THEN it's a dumb move.  But tossing pitches in AAA doesn't bother me, as long as he isn't taking time away from guys who need the work and could be a help to the MLB team.
    • This is amazeballs.  Just made my morning.
    • Dont we need to start The Mountcastle extension thread first
    • 1B Mountcastle 2B Norby SS Henderson 3B Westburg  C  Rutschman LF Cowser CF Holliday RF Mayo DH Kjerstad Or, so Bemorewins doesn’t have a coronary.  Holliday at 2B, Norby in LF, and Cowser in CF. Moose, if you want we can delete Mountcastle, put Mayo at 1B and Stowers in RF or LF and make it not just homegrown but Elias drafted players exclusively.
    • I guess AD is Adam Jones? I mention him because they are similar hitters.  Good power, decent average, mediocre OBP, chases a lot of pitches, etc… I have no idea why you are even mentioning Mullins here And goodness, do you actually read what I’m saying?  I never said Mounty will be bad. I never said he would be below replacement level. I said I think this season will be his career best season although I concede he may have another one in there at some point but he has largely been a 770-790 OPs guy in his career and that doesn’t figure to be a lot better as he gets older.
    • I believe 99% Orioles pitching strategists encouraged Grayson and Burnes these last two nights to accept impact risk chasing outs in view of current injury and schedule circumstances. Burnes doesn't need to worry about all the free agent suitors squeezing him.    Big game success is an unchecked box, but there's 4 or 5 NYY proving grounds coming up. The more strong relievers Elias gets, the more they can turn the dial the other way in the championship-level competition.
    • I won’t blame anyone. I still put the chances between 5-10% he comes back. We are lucky to have Povich/Mcdermott as options next year. Who knows where Seth Johnson will be next year as well.
