Chris Davis since he broke his 0-fer streak

Davis seems like a genuinely good dude.  I can't imagine the mental anguish he's going through night after night of near complete ineptitude on a public stage (although I'm sure financial stability for generations of his posterity helps, to some degree).  My first choice would be for him to figure out how to hit a baseball again and boost his trade value so the O's could dump that salary.  This would be better for him personally and the team going forward.  The next best option would be for Davis to just hang it up (not likely).  They can't keep running him out there every day when they are trying out young players to see where they will fit in the O's future.  This is a tough one.

By the way - has Davis lost a ton of weight?  He looks like he's down 40 pounds from where he was 2 or 3 years ago.

I listened to the local A's announcers during the game last night.  They kept wanting to say that Davis poses a threat to go deep to any part of the field at any time.  They acted shocked to see him batting in the 8th spot of the order.  I guess they just haven't been paying attention the last 3 years.

You are an opposing GM.  What kind of stretch would you need to see out of Davis before you'd take on any of that salary?

Well, let’s see. He’s had two awful years. How about two productive seasons?

I’m sure he can do that.

Probably no longer taking PEDs as no incentive now.

That's the crazy part. I think people would really need to see something like 2 productive years. I still would never trade for him unless it was mid-season with all signs pointing to continued positive performance. You just can't trust that he won't go back in the tank.

But that's only if he ever pulls himself out of the tank, which is apparently very unlikely.

I think one full season would be enough if you weren't taking on more than a couple million a year in salary.  Of course Davis hits 10/5 status next year.

Oh boy. Let's hope he's not anywhere near here next year.

Maybe getting out of Baltimore is exactly what he needs to revive his career.  See Arrieta, Markakis, Walker, etc.  Hell - he could wind up on a contending team and knock 40 with 120 RBIs

Markakis?    He’s basically the exact same player in Atlanta that he was here.

As to Davis, he’s finished.   I don’t know what that 2 week blip was, but he’s toast.

See the definition for "anomaly".

he'd have to hit 100 straight homeruns.  Then do it again next year before a GM would trade for him.

My "anger" is actually placed on Scott Boras who I believe negotiated directly with Pete Angelos and took advantage of:

a) PA's low baseball IQ

b) PA's diminished mental acuity (total conjecture but I believe PA was already into early senility and Boras took advantage).

c) a & b

In other words, Boras did his job well.

Arrieta has great stuff but couldn’t handle, presssure situations.  Once Davis is cut he won’t play another game in the big leagues.  There is no place in baseball for first basemen with .500 OPS,

Watching the Phillies, and think they have a Chris Davis situation in the making - potentially more expensive and much longer.

Wow, I didn't realize: all the way out to 2031 with, beginning next year, salaries of 23+ to 27+ million. But he's only 26 and has never had an OPS+ of under 109 (this year's figure so far). Thought they wd have learned from the Ryan Howard et al experience.
