Is there too much focus on hitting it hard? Did hitters lose the ability to locate where they hit the ball?

I don't think the majority of hitters have much ability at that.   Hit it hard a higher % of the time, and over the long haul you'll get a higher % of hits.

There may be guys who are exceptions, like Ichiro or Gwynn or Carew who were able to put the ball where they wanted to at a level exceeding mere mortals.   But those are the exceptions.

And after the  Orioles' top of the eighth ends with two scorching line drives hit right at fielders, the A's get a leadoff baserunner on a ball just out of Odor's reach.

And then they get a ball just off Owings' glove to put runners on first and third with nobody out.

I think Santander did it in his last AB. The 2B was playing too close to the bag, expecting him to pull it to the left side. He seemed to guide it in the hole. Like he was hitting behind the runner and trying to move him up a base.

@Just Regular 's Grayson Rodriguez hopeful prediciton is still on track.

When Grayson didn't start until the 4th game of the AAA season, on Friday the 8th, Just Regular suggested that with the minor league's 6 games/week, off-on-Monday, standardized schedule, Grayson could work in a 6th man rotation and go on the 14th (which he did), today (which he did), and next Tuesday.   The next 6 day interval would be Monday, May 2, which is an open date for Norfolk but the first game of an Oriole series vs the Twins.   And Grayson's pitch count in the 3 starts has gone 61, 67, and now 75 tonight when he pitched into the 6th.   Get him over 80 next Tuesday and maybe complete the 6th, and he could be lined up to start that game vs the Twins.
