Ryan Mountcastle 2023

Someone started a thread during the all-star break asking who could surprise in the second half. I don't get much right but my answer was Mountcastle so I'm going to go ahead and pat myself on the back for that one.

Define moment....last 30 games, BA .382, OBP .444,  SLG .618. I am sure many here are VERY disappointed that he has had some recent success and prefer a slumping RM.

Why would someone who is a real fan of the O's want him to slump? I don't think people get upset over a slump to the level of just wanting him to fail all together 😂

You get called out when you aren't producing and praised when it is deserved.

Terrible take.   NONE of us want any of our players to slump.   Just because we support making changes when someone slumps does not mean we want that to continue.  I'm one of the most anti-Mateo guys here... but I was cheering today when he got his HR and would LOVE for the April Mateo to return.

I didn't see an exit velocity on his HR today in Oakland but it almost went right through the back of the chair it hit in left field.  Did anyone notice how the chair deformed when the ball hit it?  That ball was punished.

If memory serves, it was 113+ and 439 ft.

Here are Mountcastle’s longest hot streaks:

8/23/20 - 9/14/20: 79 PA, .380/.430/.648,  5 HR, 18 RBI.  That was followed by a .627 OPS in the final 13 games of the year.

5/29/21 - 6/28/21: 101 PA, .337/.391/.683, 10 HR, 25 RBI.  That was followed by a stretch of .408 OPS over 15 games.

7/30/21 - 9/1/21: 92 PA, .366/.413/.768, 9 HR, 19 RBI.  That was followed by a stretch of .700 OPS over the final 28 games of the season.

6/1/22 - 7/3/22: 122 PA, .313/.361/.652, 8 HR, 20 RBI.  That was followed by a .435 OPS over the next 26 games.

7/24/23 - 8/20/23: 100 PA, .400/.470/.659, 6 HR, 19 RBI.

It will be interesting to see how much longer Mountcastle can keep his hot streak going, and just how cold he’ll get when he finally cools off.  Hopefully this can run a little longer and he can have a “soft landing” when it does.

Thanks for the link, that’s pretty amazing. I think I am equally amazed that he has some decent spread from BA and OBP. Historically when he goes on these tears it is almost entirely BA dependent.
