Ohtani Rental?

If we are going to make a playoff push, we need to add players. The teams we are contending with will not have the same rosters that they have now. We need to keep up. 

1. If Ohtani is just a rental, would you trade for him?

2. How much would be willing to give up for three months? What's your highest offer? 

3. If you were the Angel's, would you accept that offer?

I think it will take Holliday to even start a conversation. Probably more like Holliday and Hall. Provided we are close to the division lead and more or less guaranteed a wild card I would be very very tempted to do something like Cowser and Ortiz.

Elias was overheard saying his arm would play at second. The Orioles will work him into the infield rotation on his non-pitching days.  Maybe a few starts in right field.

The Angels are 3.5 games back. They haven't made the playoffs in a while...why would they trade him? I guess it's a possibility if they totally fall out, but the kind of players it would take to acquire him would certainly set the Orioles back.

It would be insane to trade Holliday + for ten weeks of Ohtani. Best I'd offer would be three guys in the O's 10-20 prospect range, which would probably still be better than what we got for Machado. And yes, Ohtani > Manny, but our minor league system is better than what the Dodgers had in 2018.

So you don't want Ohtani.  Why not just say that?

Also remember Manny wasn't exactly in high demand at the time.

I don't think I would be willing to give up what it would take to get Ohtani unless he came here with the intention of signing an extension beforehand.

Same. I want him for multiple seasons. But if I'm judging his body language from the game last night, I don't think he was impressed with Baltimore, and in fact, someone said in the game thread that a fan from their section was taunting him when the Orioles were hitting home runs. After seeing Ohtani crush that ball, he went around the bases like it was a revenge tour, based on the body language that I saw. He didn't flaunt it because that's not the kind of player he is, but you could still pick up the subtleties of his mood.

I'm going to guess there's very little chance that Ohtani would want to play here unless something happens where the team, and the City of Baltimore, impresses him in some way before he's gone.

Someone will overpay for him, prospects wise.  Overpay because it’s just a rental, even if you are getting “2 players”.

I’m not sure they get the best prospect in the sport for him but they will get at least a few top 50 guys plus more.

Ultimately, Ohtani is going to go to whoever will pay him the most money.   That won't be Baltimore.

Not sure why you think that.

He didn't pick the Angels because they could pay him the most money.

Don't get me wrong, he's going to make serious bank but I'm not sold that his overriding criteria.
