Two appearances ago on 4/17 he threw 4 perfect innings with 7 strikeouts.  Between today and that one probably his best since 2022.  Just need to see it more consistently.

The outing in between wasn’t too bad either, though not nearly as good as these two.  The real stinker was his first outing of the year where he allowed 5 runs (4 earned) in 1/3 of an inning.  Overall, it’s encouraging, but you’re right that we need to see more of it.  It’s probably this year or never for Tavera to show something.  He’s 25 years old already.

That’s interesting.   He’s been pretty good this year, but nothing amazing.  Seems like he’s being groomed as a long reliever, not something you see every day.

I saw people speculate about a Povich callup in response to the Teheran signing. Thought that was a stretch, but this makes me a teensy bit more curious. Teheran + Tavera does make two additional long-outing pitchers at Norfolk, and I haven't heard about any of their pitchers getting hurt. 🤔

Tavera's issues are a lack of command and consistency. His change is still a plus pitch and at times he can sit mid-90s, but he just has struggled to find any kind of consistency in his professional career.

He's an interesting arm, but I don't hold a ton of hope for him to turn into anything much unless he's a late bloomer.

Stallings got traded and Zimmerman is on the IL.

    • I just got power on in Savannah, I hope those we have not heard from are well.
    • I think the point about Gunnar being left handed does swing this in his favor, if it’s an Os specific question. No sense in having your main stud player hitting warning track lasers that would be HRs in 29 other ballparks, over and over again. We may find out exactly how frustrating that is when it comes to Mayo the next couple years  Hopefully we find out! As for the speed, Witt is of course faster. But Gunnar had 20+ stolen bases himself this year. Not like he’s slogging around out there. And Gunnar is a fantastic baserunner overall   I think the defense is closer than people think too. Easy to be biased negatively because Gunnar struggled for a bit there. But there’s a reason we were all so surprised by that - he’s been rock solid otherwise.    Lastly if we had Witt, we wouldn’t have Adley.  Which still matters despite his tough second half. That element (which I realize isn’t necessarily part of the question) makes it a complete no-brainer.
    • I'm sure they had to hold a certain number of decent seats back for MLB and corporate sponsors for the playoffs.
    • Maybe a groundball back to Cano.
    • They've upped the prices back to $77. They've also opened up a lot more sections for purchase. I found this very frustrating when I went to a game a few weeks ago. Many sections appeared sold out and then they added seats for purchase a couple of weeks before the game. Perhaps it has to do with season ticket holders deciding to not go to the game and then the tickets become available?
    • I reckon it’s because Bowman is a contact guy. I know his strikeout rate was 8 with the O’s, but historically he’s been more of a 7 SO/9, so Selby does bring more of the strikeout potential. Although, ideally, you don’t want either of those guys pitching in the playoffs. But hey, maybe Selby ends up being That Guy for us.
    • I know you know, but we gotta adjust from just to cover innings over 162 to playoff time. We won’t need more than Burnes, Eflin, Coloumbe, Cano, and Dominguez. Maybe one of Akin/Perez.
